Hey wassup guys...I just got a "89 Fastback and it didn't pass SMOG today...The SMOG guy said that the PCV hose wasn't there and what took the PCV hose's place was a Heater hose...could this be true? and what else could cause me not to pass?

A bad catalytic converter. Beer couldn't hurt ;)

What parts failed? If it was NOx, then your EGR system may not be working, or it could be your cat. If your HC was high, then you may have excessive carbon buildup in your intake manifold.

Also, the smog guy is on crack. If you had a heater hose going into where your PCV valve is, you'd be dumping coolant into your intake manifold.

It's right on the top of the manifold where it says ECCS. Go to Pep Boys, buy a new one & install it. it's a WAY cheap PM to help your car work better.

my 92 with 147k intake and exhaust didnt pass either, i took a pre-test though, which i dont think gets sent to the dmv.
the HC passed so did the CO, but the NO, max is 946, GP limits is 2002, and mine was 2337, could this be due to the EGR or cat?
i think im gonna have to pay someone off to pass it for me, is $220 reasonable?

replace your cat first. it's cheaper and it'll prevent your car from stinking
