If you've been living under a rock and arnen't aware, Ford is planning a huge Euro invasion of their across the pond cars. This is good news for us because 1) they actually look good, and 2) they are way better on gas.

Well the new Fiesta was spotted here in the states and is the engineer with the car said it's 98% ready for the states.

Here's the article. (http://www.autoilluminati.com/?p=206)

http://www.autoilluminati.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/fiesta2-300x225.jpg

It's not as cool as a cube but it's going to sell like hot cakes as soon as it arrives.

Nope. We are FINALLY getting the Euro Focus here in the states.

Actually the Mondeo IS coming here now. I posted this (http://zilvia.net/f/1956453-post18.html)a while back that shows the Mondeo/Taurus here in the states. What you see below is based off the next gen Mondeo.
http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/12h/www.edmunds.com//media/il/news/2008/0409/10.ford.taurus.f34.500.jpg

Basically what is happening is that Ford is spending buckets upon buckets on money retooling their US plants to build these Euro cars that have been so successful. It's going to take a year or two, but by 2010 we should really see a good line-up of vehicles from Ford.

FYI, instead of killing off Mercury, like I would have put money on, they are actually changing the whole line-up to be all smaller efficient cars. So goodbye to the SUV's. They will have probably a CUV or two, but the Mercury brand is going to consist of smaller more efficient, "smarter" cars, but with a slightly more upscale twist. So think about it like this...you want a small car that is efficient, but lets face it, the Fit and the like don't have stand-pout interiors. Well that's where Mercury comes in. Yea, you are going to pay more then a Civic, but you are going to get basically a low end luxury interior, which will set them apart.

Ford is seeing the light. Fuck, they have no damn choice but to take off their Blue Blockers.

Chrysler on the other hand. I wish I had better news. Only good news I've head from them is they are going away from their blocky, Americana styling, and going with more a more organic look. Until I see something solid though...it isn't looking real good for them.

Europe? Try Australia...turbocharged V6s and N/A V8s all day. Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) to be specific. Even their F6X SUV is badass.

The 500 is one of the worst failures in the last 10 years. Easily. Why they chose to change the name instead of changing the car to a GOOD car is beyond me. The 500 is about as vanilla as a car can get. If you want to blend in and never be noticed get a 500.

Along with all these new Euro based cars Ford is also goign to stuff their new Turbo charged, Direct Injection, EcoBoost engine in damn near any car they can. It's supposed to give V8 performance in a small displacement T6.

And for the people that hate hearing about small displacement engines in muscle cars, be prepared to see this engine in the next Mustang.

Yes indeed. There is now a trend with manufactures moving away from big engines to smaller turbocharged engines to get more power while being more fuel efficient.

I would count Ford's chickens before they've hatched. GM brought over many of their foreign vehicles and they dont seem to have caught on like I would have thought. I mean, the Astra is a dead sexy car, the GTO, the G8. I think the anti-American manufacturer stigma is still too strong.

you guys better hope for the new Focus RS:

http://images.sportauto-online.de/hps/img/hxmedia/mpsspa/2008/07/2VmiCWenKcwD4__650x.jpg

2.5 liter 5-cylinder, turbocharged and about 300 HP from factory. :yum:

the Ford ST and RS models are pretty popular here in germany, even the focus ST can be easily tuned to over 300 hp. and the fiesta ST is fun, too. very compact car and 150 hp.

Puma's were back in like 97-99 time frame or so IIRC. I always liked them. Ford's Euro products have long been better looking cars.

Yea, when you design the F-150 no matter how ugly it it it's still going to be the best selling vehicle (with the exception of those couple months) in the States. It's kinda like default.

This just in, Ford to already fuck up new Fiesta.

First Drive: 2009 Ford Fiesta (Euro-spec) - Autoblog (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/08/first-drive-2009-ford-fiesta/)

It'll be a little while longer before we know for sure which variants Ford will bring Stateside for North American buyers, and the 120-hp Sport model may not be part of the initial package. Ford says its market research shows that American buyers are growing more open to the idea of paying more for small cars, and that North American customers showed as much favor towards five-door hatchbacks as they did four-door sedans. The marketing and product development staff we spoke to in Europe say that certain changes will be necessary to accommodate American tastes, including fine-tuning the suspension towards North American roads and catering the seats towards American buyers.

Translation. Dumb down the car by removing the Euro handling and giving it a soft sloppy suspension and put in fat people approved seats and a dozen cupholders? UGH.

This is one of the reasons why I absolutely refuse to buy a Ford. The stuff we see on this thread is what should have been offered here in NA to begin with, instead of the garbage we now have. for some reason or another, Ford keeps all their good stuff for overseas, while the U.S. gets sub-par products. ok, some of the Ford cars might strictly be diesels. I can see why they would have trouble with that, given our stringent emissions laws, esp with CARB. however, there shouldn't any emissions trouble with chassis, like euro-focus, modeo, ka, falcon, etc if they can toss in a conventional gasoline engine. this is even more a slap in the face considering they are a supposedly 'american' company. Granted, almost every company does the same thing (well maybe not GM), but nobody is as big of an offender as Ford. Even the Japanese have some great options avail today here in the US that were not prior.

seriously, I will just take my $ elsewhere to GM or another Japanese manufacturer where I know that I am buying the best of what the company has to offer, instead of what Ford thinks we as American ought to deserve.

The reason I'm mad is because they where supposed to be changing that behavior
