16 my ass!!! (http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/gymnastics/news?slug=ap-gym-underagechinese&prov=ap&type=lgns)
Those little girls are no older than 11! Even if it is proven that they are under 16 it'll probably be swept under the rug. Communism in China is almost ruining these Olympics. China sucks ass!!!!

IOC just opened up an investigation into it but you're right. Swept under the rug, like the poor people and everything else to clean up Beijing for the Olympics.

16 my ass
and if you think that chinese people tend to look younger, just look at the chinese divers which are "also" 15-16 and compare their faces and it's just obvious.

This is in the Olympics thread.
The medals she won will be revoked, if the IOC finds
out she is really not 16. I'm not holding my breath though,
as I think the IOC isn't going to do shit.

It doesnt matter anymore. All results are final and done. All they can do is just take the gold back and melt them up and mold new medals for the next olympic games.

I knew it. There was so much bullshit going on with the Chinese gymnasts, the incident on the vault were the Chinese girl fell forward on all 4's on dismount and still got a 16.75 While The American girl wound up with a bronze. I bet the Chinese bribed the judges as well. It would be typical of China under communism. I am glad the Womens volley ball smacked down the Chinese team. LOL
Oh and yes that Chinese gymnast did and does look 14 and not 16.

Dave, you should read the Olympics thread. We had
a long discussion about the discrepancy of the scores,
and the biased judges. The talk starts here. (http://zilvia.net/f/off-topic-chat/199250-official-2008-beijing-summer-olympics-thread-9.html)

16 is the minimum, not 15.
From the article:
Age falsification has been a problem in gymnastics since the 1980s after the minimum age was raised from 14 to 15 to protect young athletes from serious injuries. The minimum age was raised to its current 16 in 1997.
There's one reason.

Also, younger people are more limber and flexible, which
is a HUGE advantage in this sport.

Seriously? What a moronic comment. If they revoke the Chinese girl's medals, Nastia Liukin will get the gold medal and the U.S. Womens Gymnastics teamwill get the All-Around gold.

A 14 year old is considerably naturally more flexible than a 16 year old. It gives an unfair advantage.
But like it has been said, there is an Olympics thread for this.

Gymnastics rules require that they turn 16 the year of the olympics. In gymnastics, younger girls have an advantage because they are more flexible and less beat up by years and years of training. If you notice, the US girls have boobs (sorta).
The rule was recently changed. Nadia Comenici was only 14 when she scored perfect 10's (the scoring was also changed recently).

You left out Alicia Sacremone's (from my Hometown of Winchester Mass!) being edged out of her Silver medal when Cheng Fei fell forward on all 4's on the vault. I bet the Australian judge was bribed by the Chinese. LOL

being more limber and flexible isn't the only benefit. being physically smaller makes the tumbling easier. The average weight of the american team is 106.5 lbs, the average weight of the chinese team is 77 lbs.

Ultimately, the Chinese government can create whatever documents they want to show her as being 16.
I'm sure they printed up a passport and birth cert that "confirms" this.

True China will just create that shit...
I know they dont want to be embarrassed in their own country at that...

IOC already ruled... despite evidence and school records.
The fake CGI fireworks, the lip-syncing. Not to mention all the dastardly shit they did to "clean up" city. Whomever awarded China the olympics in the first place needs to be clubbed in the back of their heads with their own severed leg.

Communists don't "bribe". They persuade you to do what they want at gun point or run you over with a tank. You know, subtle hints.

Cui also said discrepancies about He’s age were the result of a paperwork error. Chinese officials decided to move He from her local team to the national team at last year’s China’s Cities Games, but Cui said a “misunderstanding appeared” about her age during the registration process. The government’s news agency, Xinhua, identified He as one of “10 big new stars” after the Cities Games and gave her age as 13.
Earlier this month, the AP found registration lists previously posted on the Web site of the General Administration of Sport of China that showed both He and Yang were too young to compete. He was born Jan. 1, 1994, according to the 2005, 2006 and 2007 registration lists. Yang was born Aug. 26, 1993, according to the 2004, 2005 and 2006 registration lists. In the 2007 registration list, however, her birthday has changed to Aug. 26, 1992.
yes, it definitely sounds like it was just a one-time clerical error.
