So i was swaping my diff for a J30T VLSD last night and i ran in to a couple problems. I read about 20 different posts about swaping the VLSD and no one ever mentioned you would need new mounting bolts for the subframe. So everyone make a note. If you are swaping a J30 VLSD in you S13, make sure you have longer mounting bolts.
The main problem is im having trouble getting the axels back onto the diff. The little notch that sticks ouf at the back if it is just a little to long to push it back in. Any help? I really dont want to have to drop the diff again.

yes you need longer mounting bolts. There is definately information about that somewhere floating here. You need s14 or z32 front differential bolts as they are indeed quite a bit longer.

Strange, I've read and written a million times you need the hardware too. Seems even obvious when you look at the two.
As for the axles, push harder. They'll go in.

Exactly what I was thinking on both counts. No point in me being redundant.

i read so many different posts about the j30 lsd and i never saw anythign about different mounting bolts. and as for the axles i think ima have to drop the diff again. i couldent get those in even with a pry bar. it was being just too stubborn.
Tap the axles with a 5 lb sledge and they go right in. You just need to get the snapring/circlip/whatever to open and thrust that shit in.

Why? Its a VLSD... its not a clutch diff or anything.
If you want the bolts, buy them from the dealer. I paid $15 but I didn't have to wait and I wasn't sitting around on a forum crying about it.
Go to a Nissan Dealer, ask them for S14 Differential Mounting Bolts. Pay, leave, install. Cheaper here, only like $8.
Or if you like being fancy, drive to Infiniti Dealer, ask for J30 Differential Mounting Bolts. Pay, leave, install. Was $15 here, but whatever.
Its not rocket science and yes, it has been covered multiple times -- even regarding the differential bolt issue.

If you don't have a way to get to a dealership... order online, get a friend to drive you, etc. I bet Russ would even sell you the bolts and overnight it to you, if you gave him $100. :keke:

Nope. I threw out my box of front diff bolts, washers, and bushings last month. I must have had 30 sets of them but got tired of people expecting me to ship them overnight for free covering the cost from my end, then fly out the same day and install them because they couldn't figure out how to do it.
