Cars battery is being charged and is out of the car. I used my large jump start box to start the car. Started right up. Smelt a burning rubber smell so I turned it right off. Disconnected jumper box. Inspected for anything burnt, damaged, etc.

Re-connected jumber box and now car won't start. All dash lights and everything work normal, fuel pump is making the priming noise, but there is no spark at all.

I checked and double checked dizzy connectors. Everything seems normal. WTF is going on?! Suggestions please?

are you supposed to use jumper box without battery? is the jumper too weak now to generate the spark. i guess if you have enough power to crank you have enough power to spark. are there any fuses after the ignition switch? none for s13. so might be blow dist cap or ignition module? id look at fuses first

I checked all the fuses under the dash and hood. Are there any relays that could be causing such a problem?

And yes. I'm sure i have enough electricity to get a spark as long as the motor is cranking. Besides, it fired up just fine the first time.

Well, surprisingly enough, it DID need a battery to start. I honestly don't get it, but hey, it worked. Why the car won't start/spark with just a jumper box(which provides plenty power to crank) is beyond me.

Thanks and repped.

not sure but i know they say that you have to recharge the jumper box once you have used it . it depletes apparently very rapidly so wouldnt be suitable for running the car w/o battery even for a short period. designed to supply high amps for the few seconds needed to start. thanks for the rep.
