I found a '96 SE for sale up the road from me that is in pretty good shape cosmetically. It has 170K miles and will needs some minor mechanical work/maint.(brakes, align, balance). The seller is asking $5,500 obo, but KBB good retail is 3,700 and NADA clean retail is like 4,500. I thought about offering her $4K due to it needing some minor maint. Is this a fair offer? I haven't kept up with 240s for quite a while and don't know what the going rates are. I am just looking for a daily with good fuel mileage that's fun to drive.
Also, can anyone run a VIN check for me?

kbb means nothing on these forums though so if the seller knows about the market for 240's then good luck with that. but trying never hurt anyone shit i picked up a running FD for 4500!!!

I think I might low ball at first with 3800. I won't go much higher than that though, there are other cars in the area that have more interest from me.
I'll let y'all know for sure if I get it or not. I wouldn't mind one bit being a rwd Nissan owner again.

Well, I just made the offer for $4K cash and they agreed. I'm kind of excited! I wasn't looking for a 240, more along the lines of Civic/Integra or another Prelude; but I saw this clean SE 5-speed in great shape and I couldn't help but check it out. I should be a proud new owner Tuesday!
