Ok guys. Thanks everyone for the response.

I guess I should spill the beans since it may actually help our effort.
I am building this car for Bonneville. I figure its finally time I put my efforts towards a goal besides drifting. Something that will make a difference and be remembered. As some of you know my Dad is a ex car designer. He has designed everything from a 4 rotor corvette for gm back in the 60s, parts of the 69 camaro, the cowl induction hood, all the way upto the Shadow can am car.
He is the one helping me design this cars aerodynamics and find a way to eliminate lift.

I know this is a big project, but when I put my mind to something I do it. I will have proposals going out next week. Hopefully we will get some support. Maybe Kodgnington could help out?

Anyways. Current companies supporting this car:

Manji parts manjiparts.com

Hinson Supercars hinsonsupercars.com

Canton Racing cantonracing.com

Accusump accusump.com

Torco oil torcooil.com

Sparco Sparcousa.com

Megan Racing meganracing.com

Rota wheeldude.com

We hope to gain additional support.
Thanks everyone, and let us know if you would like to be part of this undertaking.

For the rear end we are keeping the s5 rear, but using a custom spool, and cryo treating all parts. It should hold up if we treat it nice.

why not swap out the rear end for something like a 9 inch? It gives the advantage of having a dropable third member, and can have the 5x4.5 bolt pattern, same as your current 5x114.3. Just wondering, it's drag proven with TONS of aftermarket support.

blu808
08-16-2008, 10:39 PM
I see your point. I just want to keep it simple. The rx-7 rear end will work fine, and with an fd automatic 3.88 ratio it should be perfect for around 256mph.

DOOK
08-16-2008, 10:44 PM
welp, the math sounds about right... at 256 any diff is gonna be getting pretty warm... ehhh, at least you've got options. i can't wait to see this.

Change of plans. We are going partial tube frame on this FC with a front removable birdcage to hold the package tray (rad, intercooler, oil coolers, etc).

sry u dont need a "super downforce machine"

racing beat went up to 238mph with stock-body and some hub caps, they didnt even do a 1 piece fiberglass front or tape up the bumper surrounding area

http://www.racingbeat.com/Gallery/86Bonneville.jpg

Class: E/BGT - Racing Beat - Driver: Don Sherman - 1986.
238.442 MPH - This Land Speed Record is still held by Racing Beat.

How Are World Record Times Recorded?

The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) is the organizing body that governs the events at the Bonneville Salt Flats. There are MANY classes that are listed in the SCTA rule book from stock classes to race-bred streamliners.

In order to establish a new world land speed record, a car is allowed to accelerate over a two mile stretch of the salt flats, then the next one-quarter (1/4) mile stretch is timed. If the car exceeds 175MPH in this one-quarter mile section it is considered a "long course" car and is allowed to continue through the next three miles of the course, for a total distance of five miles. Additional timing traps are set up at the end of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th mile sections.

To qualify for a record attempt, a vehicle must exceed the existing record by .001 MPH during a one way run. If the record is established during this run, then the car is impounded and a second run is attempted later that day. The second run is attempted and the average of these two runs determines a potential new land speed record.

100lb/hr! Holy bejeezus. That's a lotta juice (esp when there's 8 of em).

Liquid to air is what all the big hp drag cars do... I hear it's the jam.

I'd like to see the gains you get off meth injection, I'm sure you'll squirt through that 5gals in a day with that much power.

Threw the supercharged engine back in for more test fitting.

We are designing this to work with both the hinson turbo setup, and the procharger. That way we can change it in the future if we decide to.

http://www.blu808.com/Fc3sSpeedrecordcar/08-13.5-08/08-13.5-08%20005.JPG

Then we just decided to throw a rad in there and an intercooler to show how much room is available. We will be using a liquid to air intercooler.

Then we put the oil cooler, and PS cooler in the side vents.
The real setup will have proper ducting for the inlets and outlets of the coolers.

More information about proper ducting design here.
