s15 use a HLSD (helical)
that should help your SEARCH alitte
people like it when you look for your own answers on this forum, probally cuz this topic has been done to death. search welded lsd too (if you are into drifting) G\L and welcome to zilvia.net

Actually you are wrong. S15's came with VLSD's aaaaand HLSD's. A simple search could have provided you with the answer as well. :keke:

For the OP, neither one is very popular for drifting.

FYI, tyre size is also a factor that can affect the speedo accuracy.

anyway i went with the 5 speed instead

Ok, but 5-speed from what?

Anything can fit into anything. It depends on your skills.

and is it a good LSD to drift with ???

What is "drift"? Some people can "drift" with open diff while others can't with 2-way. What can you do?

any one has this done in their 240 ???

Yes.

All of your questions have been answered, but I am afraid you're not asking the right question.

First, you say that your 6-speed VSS must match the rear end ratio. This implies that you want to reuse your speedo.

This is another whole issue because the VSS has to be matched to the speedo.

Second, the VSS measures gearbox output shaft rotation speed. The speedo calculates the VSS signal into a speed number value. The calculation rests on a specified ring/pinion and tyre combo.

Mess up any link in the chain and the speedo will be off.

What exactly are you trying to do?

drifts ok but it doesn't lock in some conditions.

Helicals don't lock all the time.

Exactly. Some S15s came from the factory with HLSD, but not all. There's no guarantee that you have a helical. It may be VLSD or even open.

Also beware that JDM diffs may have come out of an S15, but the diff itself may have been a retrofit from a different model. There's no guarantee that you have a factory S15 diff unless you can confirm part number.

HLSD or VLSD suck just weld it and save up for a 2way LSD insted of wasting ur time on a HLSD or VLSD

HLSD's and VLSD's do not suck they just don't lock as easily as a 2-way... and stop assuming that everyone on this forum drifts.

The S15s didn't have a true VSS. They used the ABS sensors on the diff to compute speed. Thus if you use the S15 6 speed or the Z33 6 speed (also no VSS) you can't use a VSS, but you don't have to use the S15 diff. You just need an ABS R200 pumpkin off any car and a signal conversion box.

HLSD is not the best drifting diff, it is better for grip.
