might be bad injectors or spark plugs.

Spark plugs/ wires.
Coil.
Injectors/ O rings.
Coolant temp sensor.
Edit: Oh yeah. Does it smell like it's running rich, or does it smell like raw fuel? How do you know it's running rich and not just leaking fuel?

I'm having a similiar issue with my KA24DE and I have replaced numerous things in the quest to figure it out. In a matter of fact the #1 cylinder randomly quit firing all together. I put new plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, & O2 sensor in it. That seemed to take care of the #1 cylinder not firing. I also swapped the distributor & injectors with other used ones I had laying around and also advanced the timing as much as possible. I also had to cut the freakin cat off because it was clogged. Still rich as hell, almost not drivable. I'm running out of ideas. I have a spare ECU laying around. I'm going to try it tonight. If that doesn't help I can only think of the Coolant Temp & MAF. I'll try those next.

it smells like burnt gas coming out of the exhaust, bad gas mileage, back fireing? and if it was just leaking gas it would leave a trail of gas

hey i dont know what exactly setups you have but just something to keep in mind i know we had this problem with two of are ka's if you delete your egr system it ads about 7% fuel jto idle not sure how much while driving so if you did delete your egr you need to get something to manage your fuel hope this helps you guys
