I bought a radiator fan controller, but I need help adjusting the temperature I want to have the fan kick in at. I don't have any pyrometer to see exactly what temperature; howver, I wanted to ask if I can check by looking at the tick marks on the stock temperature gauge.

I don't understand the question. Why do you need a pyrometer?

The stock temp gauge is completely useless except to tell you that your engine is way too hot. There is not much other info you can deduce from the stock gauge.

I need a pyrometer to shoot the radiator to see at what temperature the fan kicks in. The controller is adjustable from 150 to 220 F.

Not positive, But I believe a KA kicks on at 185 and kicks off at 195 ???
someone.??

Search around for the threads on electric fan hook ups, cause I know they talk about the running temps in there.

BTW, you dont wanna read the temp on the radiator. You want to read it at one of the hoses. either the one entering the radiator or the one exiting, I forget which.

EDIT: just read someone saying something about them kicking in around 203 degrees.

You want to read the one coming thermostat, usually the top neck. It is best to aim the pyrometer right at the neck or thermostat housing.

The stock guage is useless, buy a water temp guage or go try and borrow a pyrometer. You could also, in all safeness turn the fan thermostat to it's lowest setting and be happy with that.

Stock redtop SR20DETs use clutch fan with no electronic trigger. The fan is always on.

You can verify this by opening your hood after a cold engine start. Look at the fan.

I need a pyrometer to shoot the radiator to see at what temperature the fan kicks in.

For the reason above, your question is moot.
