digital speedo in a fastback?

i have an '89 fastback, and i was wondering if i buy the digital speedo and HUD unit from a coupe would i be able to hook it up to my car? it it a bolt up affair? or do i need to do some custom work?

no, they're slightly different. I have a digital speedometer and wanted to change it to an analog one. Trust me, stay with the analog.. it's much better. The digital speedometer only works when it wants to.

It'll swap in directly. you need to grab the short (1'-2') harness that goes with it.

But, yeah. The digital speedometers are notoriously unreliable, either taking a while to warm up or just not working at all in the cold.

im putting HUD in my car.
got a 89/90 gotta swap out the RPM gauge, rewire it all and plug it in.

it is not easy.
i dont care if thespeedo doesnt work, i have an Apex'i RSM so its not a big deal. i drive like old lady too so no worries.

why hud? big RPM gauge. good for my constant track usage

If you're doing any "rewiring" you're doing too much work.

Find a 240SX with HUD in a junkyard. Grab the short 1'-2' harness that goes from the cluster to the main harness.

The cluster end is different for HUD/non-HUD.

The main harness end is the same for all.

i'd swap my analog for a HUD version, but like everyone's said, they're notorious for not working sometimes... so i'm just going to get a universal speed/tach HUD from takakaira.

when do these things usually cop out? My car has 150k on it and it's been working fine. just wondering when I'll have to swap it.

hey guys. actually i've put a digital cluster on my brothers 91 180sx. the main thing you will need are listed:

HUD dash - unless you want to destroy or non digital dash..

Digital Speedo cluster - use the JDM ones. they dont break!

HUD unit - this should be in the dash already.. but get one if its not

digital speedo harness - this lil baby plugs right in.

the swap is easy. i did it becsue i got a new dash due to bad cracks. my brother re wrapped my old dash and now we are both happy and living in a digital world. we also both use the JDM digital cluster becasue their version doesnt break! works perfectly.

now i will attempt to chat, using my digital cluster... holla
