My starter is acting up and Im trying to determine if its the starter or the wiring. This only happened after an engine swap. The starter worked fine previously.

The symptoms are, its random sometimes it starts no problem then sometimes when I go to start the engine all I hear is click. However, if I hold the key in the full on position for long enough the eventually the starter will come to life and the engine starts. This can take 3-5 seconds.

Has anyone had this experience before? Is this a dying starter or a wiring issue somewhere?

I have the same exact issue. It starts when it wants to, but I think I've sourced the problem to the clutch switch.

I would get your battery and starter tested first. If they pass check the ignition switch for any wear n tear, and if its fine I would check the clutch switch.

hope that helps

It cant be the clutch switch since I dont have one. Auto to manual swap.

I also think it happens when the car is warmed up hence why Im leaning towards a starter rather than wiring.

Starter solenoids typically will act up more when hot. I'd bet that's the problem. Remove and rebuild.

Swapped starters and it seems to be gone. More testing will prove me wrong or right.

The new starter is slow to crank though. Damn these ten year old starters.

I've been having the same issue. However I was told that you can get the SR starters rebuilt because they use special JDM magic land parts.

I wonder if the snoid works from an SE-R sentera? I'll have to look into that while I'm at work
