Looks good. I'm glad they are going this route. Compared to the Sky and Solstice the current Miata is just so blah.

Reminds me of an S2000 if you ask me. You can still tell that it has a Miata hint to it though. Looks better.

Looks good. I see the S2000 in the front, as well as a little RX-8.

Current Miata is shaped too much like a bubble, or a capsule, or whatever.

Pop-ups are expensive to produce and repair.

I love the pop-up miatas. Had an M-spec model (OEM aero, vlsd) for about 6 months and loved every moment of it.

I knew they'd up the ante with the looks of the current model. They respectfully focused a lot on function over form with it and seemed to be like "eh, do whatever fits" with the exterior. Lookin good so far. I like.

Seriously? You know they haven't been pop-up since like '97 right? ;)

current miata looks strangely like a speedboat or something from the front, to me at least. this doesn't look much better.

I say it looks good. Better than the pre-facelift, that's for sure.

IIRC, I think the last car ever to get flip-up lights was the corvette. Educate me if I'm wrong.

looks good. I like both designs. Stylistically, I prefer the new design, but I think the previous design is more tightly integrated into the overall style of the car.

Miatas are so underrated.

Good.

looks better imo, but I think the current miata's pricing isn't the most competitive. a base model without a/c, open diff, 160hp ish 4cycl engine will run you to the 24k price range. only saving grace is rwd and low curb weight. doesn't make too much sense when a rx-8, 350z, and solstice turbo go for 27k ish, with much more amenities, and better overall performance.

I think used miatas are a much better value. mazdaspeed miatas w/ less than 20k can be had for well under $15k these days. older first gen miatas can be had for less than 3k. my first rwd car was a 92 miata. I got it 5 yrs ago, and it came w/ hardtop, 80k mi, for 5k. not the best deal, but it served me well during hpde's and fun dd.

This is true. I don't think Mazda was prepared for the Solstice/Sky honestly. They seem to be stuck in their ways when it comes to the Miata. Sure the Miata has been a good seller for them for a long time, but it never really had any competition. GM came out with two cara that are not only far more attractive, but like you said, are a better value over-all. Base vs base the Miata is probably the better buy, but most people buying a car in this segment are going to be spending around that $27k mark. In this case the Kappa cars out box the Miata like Tyson in the late 80's.

Nothing beats the first and second gens.

I hate the third gens. The redesign is certainly an improvement but it still doesn't do much for me.

You guys remember that red Miata coupe concept? That was pretty good looking.

Why do small cars keep getting bigger? The new Miatas are too big. To me, the Miata's size was its trademark.

Same with Civics. They used to be small and now they're huge. Lame. Honda replaced it with the Fit as the small car in its lineup. I think the Fit should've been the new Civic.

I know, right? You think that with all the technology and advancements nowadays that it would still be able to retain its compact features. Must be because of all the safety stuff and other gadgets they put into it. :naw:

that's what most ppl say, but I'm not really all that convinced either. If MINI/bmw can build light, small, safe, with a decent suspension, not outrageously priced, AND make $$$, then it's not like it's impossible for others to do the same. also given all things equal, less materials should equal less cost. this is why I find it so difficult to believe cars like the current miata and the elise to cost so much. they are not really all that complicated at all.
