Get the Civic Hybrid.

Drives nice and doesn't look like

Granted it's not rated for as much mpg's as the Prius but I've managed to get 56mpg out of mine. Not to shabby.

My dad has a prius. I cant even tell the car is on when I drive it. Its pretty comfy and hasn't given him any problems yet. Interior is pretty quite and ride is pretty smooth. Its gutless and ugly but w/e its smog exempt and insane on gas efficiency. There was a small wait to get it but it wasn't a very long wait.

haha it's not for me. no worries.

it's for the wifey. we're selling the camry and she's giving me her integra, which i'm going to sell and somehow end up with a running 240. i have a fastback shell that i might get a motor for, or sell and use all the money to buy a running one.

I had one for a rental car a few weeks ago. it's great for a DD, quite roomy inside. It needed an instruction sheet on how to drive it though. The trip computer said I averaged about 50 mpg over the three days, but when I actually calculated it myself, I came up with much less (~37). However, I don't know how accurate my calculation was, since I hadn't filled up the previous tank, so I didn't really know how many gallons I used.

The real gimmick with hybrids is that they change your driving habits. you purposely drive slower, and accelerate slower in an effort to keep it on electric as much as possible. I found myself watching the mileage readout all the time. If people drove a standard economy car they way they drive hybrids, they would get much better mileage too.

i used to work at toyota. god what a fucking waste of money they are. hell they put out similar emissions to a HUMMER. I hated working on them.

Hybrids in general are a waste of money, hell the batteries are worse for the environtment then the battery in a normal car.

please andrew dont waste your money.

if a smart was electric and had a bit more cargo room, she'd probably want that instead. my friend has one and brought it over a few times and my wife thinks it's the cutest thing ever.

a fit would be cool to me.

but ultimately it's not going to be "my" car, so i can only try to influence her decision. i can't make it for her

My uncle is an auto broker down in SoCal. He can work a discount and have the car picked up at the nearest dealership. Toyota, Honda, whatever he has access to whatever make. If you are serious let me know he works fast so you better have the information on what car or cars you are interested in. He can work with you on the financing too. He will not jerk you around its all up front in black and white. Our entire family has been purchasing our cars and trucks from him for years.....we a huge family...enough to invade a city!

Screw the prius...

I dont work for a Toyota dealer, but I work for a Toyota supplier. If you really want the Prius, they are going to start making it in the US soon, so I imagine it will be a little cheaper. AFAIK the battery should still be coming from overseas so it will still be expensive but the rest is made here. But IIRC you wont see the US made one until 2010.

With all that said, buy a Fit...

actually they make some type of horn/siren for the prius whenever it goes into the reverse gear

but i can hear any toyota hybrid when its near me, they make this high pitch noise when the engine is off

what ever you do DO NOT BUY A FIT.. gas milage is over rated.. it gets shitty ass gas milage for what it is..

YARIS > FIT..

how do i know... umm both these cars are at my house hold
that fit got the same gas milage as my corolla xrs the 1.8 litter..
and my corolla was x 351657 more comfy

im +1 on getting a civic hybrid.. the prius looks a little overpriced.. i seen a nice 08 civic hybrid for about 20k with only a few miles on it.

I work at a Toyota dealer (Technician) been there 6 years. We make fun and call them Toyota Penis, lol (no homo) good vehicle, we had 5 come in on the truck today.. i did PDI on two of them, most expensive one was 25k dat included: Hid's, wheel locks, back-up camera etc... NO car is maint. free but these require very little maint. Just do your regular oil changes, tire rotation and occasion air filter when its dirty and that's about it, i have yet seen a 2nd Gen Prius that needed brakes!! they use a regenerative braking system.. only time we have serious problems is when these vehicles are involved in high impact collisions.

Same here, the prius would work better for me because other than driving it I wouldn't touch it.

you cant go wrong with toyota trust me on that one!

You know, I know, he knows, anyone with a brain knows you can't go wrong with a Toyota.......

BUT......

the exact same could be said for Honda, it's a given.

It's the details to be concerned with.
