Not Being Able to Register...

Today I was not able to register my car...sadly to say : (.

I had my pink slip all ready to go, but the date on the owner's signature was back in 2005. And the signatures were smeared, but still readable.

BTW- I bought this car this year, from my friend who had bought from the original owner. So that's why its dated back in 2005. No prob's on paying the fee's though, its under Non-Op so the fee's would come out to be around $60-70 dollars.

The lady said I could not transfer the title of the car, I told her that the seller is out of state now. I can't go over there and get his signature and what not.

She gave me a few papers for the bill of sale and the statement for why the date is 2005.

This sucks balls.

Yeah shit sucks...I was hoping I can make this my daily driver from now on. But can't get in touch with the original owner.

i registered my fc as non-op after 2 years of not having it registered at all.

lady at the dmv didn't want to let me do it cuz no one smogged it when i bought it.
i just had to keep telling her it didn't have an engine and it was a race car that would never be on the street again anyway, and she finally let me do it.

and just recently i got a different lady to waive the written test when i went to get my M1, cuz my permit had just expired. you're supposed to take the test if you don't have a current permit.

Should I just keep telling them, that there is no way I can contact this man what so ever? Maybe I can get it done that way?

Thanks for all the input guys, it's not that I'm lazy to fill out paper work, but without the original owner I can't do much, he's out of state and only god knows where.

sorry i don't mean to thread jack if i am, but all the advice ^ is good and made me think about my car. so yea im in the same situation but i haven't register my car yet. im going to really soon. it hasn't been register for a couple of years now and it wasn't smogged when i bought it, so i was wondering if i register it as non-op will i still be able to drive it on the street, and when i get pulled will i have a problem.

If you register it as NON-OP you cant drive it in the streets, park in public roads, it has to be stored away.

If you get pulled over, that's a big no no. But if you have the pink, just go register it, its only gonna cost $60-70 dollars. Just get it over with, I hate my situation because I cant register not because it's non-op, but simply the fact that the signature releasing the vehicle is smudged.
