Now I've heard timing the Ka can be tricky, but it cant be this hard.

Ive seen the writeup on NICO. Set at TDC, line the rotor up to cylinder #1.

But my car will not align at cylinder #1. Its always too far left or right. Never can center. I don't know what the hell is going on.

I was talking to some dude awhile ago, he told me to align the rotor on cylinder #3? Tried that, doesn't work.

I feel like a dumbass, this shouldn't be that hard. If anybody could set their motor to TDC, take off the dizzy cap and show me where their rotor is facing i would really appreciate it.

if you're looking at the rotor like a clock:
if its an s13, it kinda points at 9:30. if its s14, it kinda points at 8:30.

EDIT: also make sure its TDC on compression stroke and not exhaust stroke. you can tell by the camshaft lobes on the first cylinder. the intake and exhaust lobes should be pointing outwards

The rotor turns as you're pushing it into the head too. I can't remember which way it turns but let's say it turns clockwise while you're pushing it in. Then, on an s14, you would make the rotor point to 6:30 and when you're pushing it in, it would turn clockwise. Once you have it fully installed and pushed in all the way, the rotor would point at 8:30.

If it turns counterclockwise while you're pushing it in, then you would just make it point somewhere past 8:30 obviously. hope this helps

when i put my motor back in, i did the correct procedure and it didn't start so i moved it back 1 tooth and it started right up with close to correct timing, so you might need to do this
