I have an s14, and I'm planning on finding the lsd from a 95+ Infinity J30 to swap into my car. The only prob is that the J30 lsd has a slightly lower gear ratio. Stock 240sx = 4.08 and J30 = 3.91something.

Would I be able to take the final drive gear from my 240sx open-diff and put it into the J30 lsd?

Or maybe the reverse, put all of the J30 diff internals into my 240sx diff housing and keep the 240sx final drive gear?

yes, you can, but that sorta kills the whole reason for getting a preassembled diff. you'll have to have everything aligned and all that shiz. might as well get a set of Nismo gears of whatever ratio you want. or just get a Kaaz or a Nismo or a Quaife or a Cusco diff and use the gears you already have.

oh well michael, i guess we're going to be suffering with some funky gear ratios.. yeehaw this LSD swap thing is going to be fun huh.

:D

the 3.91 wont be bad acceleration will be down slightly but you'll have a nice big top speed. my nismo LSD came with 4.36 gears in it. makes 1st gear pretty useless :D

Yeah... I was driving around today... and hmmm 1st gear does seem kinda short, well at least to me... stock form that is. I guess longer gearing wouldn't hurt at all, if any... that is, I'd be willing to try it out.

And yes... lsd swap is going to be awesome phun

yeah that 3.9 will make 1st last a bit. I believe it was uiuinja that had a gearing calculator, we put mine through and 1st gear should top out on my setup at like 35mph. and iirc thats down almost 10mph from stock setup

how does the cost compare when getting a just the kaaz or nismo internals and installing them in the open diff case I already have?

compared to what? a J30 or other R200 vlsd? its hella high. you can pick up a j30 etc. etc. for like 300 with a Kaaz or nismo your looking at at LEAST 700 unless Guido finds one that "fell off the truck" then you got labor charges to put the thing in to your diff on top of that. BUT the Kaaz and Nismo units are 100 times better than a stock vlsd.

Truths... I'll be using the VLSD as something to "practice with" until I get a high-paying job. Indeed, if I had the money, I'd go with a KAAZ. Indeed, I say!! :D

in my 93 240sx i can hit 35 in first gear..stock diff
your j30 rear end will make your car slower until high speeds
but if you are into freeway battles then go for it..

According to 240SX.org, the diff in the J30 and N/A Z32 will have the same ratio as the 240SX, and therefore, should yield no problem in gearing... Brandon, with his 4.36, will redline 4th gear and sounds like it is falling apart at low speeds, strangely enough this makes me jealous, I think I will steal his car...

? what'd you just say about my car? english mother Fu<ker! do you speak it? :D I hit the speed limiter in 4th gear, i can hit the rev limiter in 1st - 3rd gear :) as for the "i think i broke something" sound around low speed corners.. well that just means its working  :D and how you gonna steal my car? I can see that purple monster coming a mile away, dont make me shave those dreads

hahah. Yeah, I think you are mixing two people together.

There's uuninja who has an S14 and a turbo KA.

Then there's me, uiuc240 who has an S13 with SR20DET. My name is actually rather simple. I go to the University of Illinios at Urbana-Champaign, and I drive a 240. Hence, uiuc240. w3rd.

I need some of that good ol boy brand duct tape. you know the kind that can hold a tractor together ? yeah that stuff. the kind you can lay in a field sticky side up and catch a water buffalo with....
