So I recently got an AT&T 8525 from my dad (his old work phone, I had a 1G Blackjack), but it needs updating.

With that said, how do I go about doing it? I know I need to install ActiveSync on my computer (still need to do that), but other than that, where do I download WinMo from?

+rep to anyone that can help, thanks in advance. :bigok:

xda-developers - Powered by vBulletin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/) and look for the corresponding forum for that phone..

Does that phone have built in gps feature?? if you look for the torrent file for tomtom mobile you can turn it into a turn by turn gps =p

People make updated firmwares etc.. homebrew applications etc.

i got a tmobile wing that i updated the firmware with 6.1 and someother stuff.. overclocked etc.. and im dam happy with it.. Windows mobile phones are soo underrated.. these phones are cheap compared to public idiot proof iphones etc and can do everything they can and more.

Well, now I'm having a problem with ActiveSync.

For some reason, it's saying I can't connect to the computer, even though it was connected earlier.

I ran a test, and it came up with no problems.

wtf?

try upgrading active sync sometimes if you update you need a new version to recognize it

I have 4.5, which, IIRC, is the most recent out there.

It's not even picking up the phone, no matter what USB port I put the cable in (and I have 3).

Bah, I still haven't been able to figure out the issue with ActiveSync.

I'm gonna try to troubleshoot it either tonight or tomorrow, and if anything else arises, I'll post up.

Thanks for the help, again.

try resetting the phone.. there is a button combo you press and hold when you turn it on..

But when you do get active sync working, i find keeping it synced with outlook contacts to be awesome so it backs up your phone numbers.,.. you can always flash the rom and OS and let it sync and all your numbers are back =D

All my numbers are on my SIM card, so would it still delete them?

It's also been slow, as in taking forever to load basic shit like texts, etc.

I have a 2gb memory card from my Blackjack that I could throw in it, you think that'd make a difference?

Well, I hard reset it, and it's working A LOT better.

100x smoother, etc.

Now to figure out this ActiveSync problem.

EDIT: Seems like the reset fixed that problem, too.

High five!

while everyone bitches at iphone not having copy and paste... winmo still hasn't figured out "close or exit".

everything you open stays open till you go into task manager and close them. it's tough when you're like me and never shut the phone off..

wrong.

mine came with some kind of different start menu.
or was it some kind of hack.
or a stock feature.

i forget.

but somewhere theres an option to make a short press of x kill the program, and a long press just minimize it, or the other way around. so you can either minimize or close.

the different menu i have has a list of running apps in it like a small taskmanager. i can close individually or close all in 2 button presses. its great because stock OS has no task manager thing like this so you forget whats open.

it came loaded on my phone already.

if anyone wants it ill dig into it and find its name and maybe a cab file for you.
