View Full Version : Who uses car ramps to raise their trailer?

Maybe some of you have seen guys do this at events, I'm asking if it's a good idea to raise the back of a truck by driving up ramps so as to angle the trailer downward. The idea is to make it easier to unload lowered cars.
My car just hit the frame rails on my trailer's lip and so I'm thinking of picking up ramps. Unloading with boards is a pain because they always edge back when they are placed higher up on the unloading ramps. I'm thinking maybe if I do this I won't even have to take the bumper off maybe.
To anyone that has done this, is it a safe thing to do? Does it damage the hitch, tongue, etc? Thanks.

I do that.
Just make sure you get the correct loading capacity ones. I forget what mine is.
I'll have to check when I get home.
I bought ones that weren't once based upon recommendation from the kragen guy and shit got crushed and stuck underneath my truck.

I just use some small regular capacity ones.
Pieces of wood if I forget them. But they suck for staying still.

ya ramps or wooden ramps make a big difference, like stated above check loading capacity etc.

what kind of trailer do you have... do you have one with ramps or a whole solid one that tilts up.

I usually just use the trailer stand to raise the tongue up with it still attached to the truck.
it wears out the stand pretty quick though.

I either use the trailor jack or another hydraulic jack that i bring with me.

Yeah I used the trailer jack but that thing is pretty weak. I have the trailer where the ramps load into the side and you pull them out and attach them. I was thinking 8000lb capacity should be more than enough and they sell for $30.

i made ramps to back the truck up onto out of wood. they are about 8 inches wide each and about 2 inches think then all nailed together. get nice, strong wood though. Then i jack the tongue of the trailer up even more then put 2x4's to drive the car off the trailer with haha.

What about 2x4s under the trailer ramps to make them more gradual?
