Just wondering what all you guys were doing with your money at age 19 or 20. How much money did you have saved up by that time while going to school if you were? Many people my age just spend money while they dont even have the money!(use credit card and wait for check to arrive)

so ya just wondering where im at this point!

buy the home equivalent of the machines you use at the gym from garage sales. it will pay for itself in the end.

or you can google "body building on a budget" and get some good results as well. either way could help you save money

as far as the phone goes, just get ya bic phone from the gas station

But the thing is ITS NOT THE SAME. For me i am the type of person that likes going to the gym you feel like people are just watching you which makes you workout a lot harder. I have a working out machine at home but it got rusted up a bit but only last bout 20min. then get bored..At the gym i actually last one hour ( when you see hot chicks makes you wanna work harded lol):D

true that man theres times i see change under the seat of my car (nickels and dimes) and just put it in an empty shoe box and turn it into dolla bills every three months lol

Read "A Million Bucks by Thirty" and that should set you straight on saving money. There are always ways to cut down or penny pinch. Its best to save because you never know when it will be a rainy day. Whatever you do, don't get into debt, especially at a young age

If you dont mind me asking, how did you come up on 23k in debt!!? thats crazy man!

You now something that i absolutely can not understand.. is why do 18-20yr.olds buy new cars of the dealership (evo, sti) and pay 500$ monthly. I mean hell yea your riding in a nice car but seriously i met this fool that he only worked to pay off his damn EVO 8 :loco:

All these young uns have these cars only becuase they live at home. They have no expenses so all the money goes into the car. Easy as that. Try this. Make up fake bills to pay and pay them. put them in envelops and put all the envelops in a box. Say you have 4 evelopes right. One for "rent", one for "food", one for Credit cards/debt and one for random. Start putting what you think you woudl pay if you werent living at home. You are still saving, but it gives you an idea of where the money goes when you are on your own.

i had really good credit from the start. actually a mistake made by the credit bureau. 5k was my old s14, the rest was credit cards (10) and a lot was theyre ridiculous rates after i wasnt able to pay. just all adds up quick. most people wont admit to owing a lot of money to credit companies or on their cars, everyone wants to put on a fuckin show, frontin.

well my biggest money pit during my 19-20age... by the time i turned 19. i became a supervisor. fulltime, getting 13/hr. plus 9hrs PTO every 2 weeks.... fulltime college same time. i saved up $2k. established credit the day of my 18th bday. i bought myself an 2007 R6 for 8.5k @ 8.9apr for 2years, min payment 90 bones/month. love kneedragging through canyons and reaping the benefits of saving some gas... bout 70+ a month saved in gas. i commute long beach to pomona on a daily basis. insurance cost me 360 for the year. i owe 4k left and i have all next year to pay it off.. the rest of my money?? paying tuition and maintaining my 240. mom loves me too much to let me move out yet. i've been considering moving out anyway for a place with a garage cus haters love to egg and key my car round here. next thing i know, its gonna get stolen..
best thing to do?? throw most of ur money in a CD and forget about it. no savings account cus u'll be tempted all the time to buy something on an impulse (like me...) u will reap many benefits from this in the long run. keep some money on the side for shits and giggles.
check it, a friend of mine whose 21 and all for his business junk started doing CDs at age 19. he would get 2 paychecks avg a month. 1st went to watever bills, other went straight into a 6mnth CD. two years later, he's still getting his two paychecks doing the same thing with them, but getting those CDs back and banking off the interest. i think he said he's made like an easy 1k by the end of 1 year getting back CDs. so... the $$ u get from ur work that year. the $$ u get back that u initially submitted for the CD. and the $$ u get in interest for the CD = buukuu bucks.

oh yeeea man i agree ive been getting credit card offers in the mail with ridiculous interest rates

nice nice! i recently checked my credit score and its 692 they told me it was pretty good. woa woa woa!!! 360$ for the year!!?? i have to pay 180 every three months so then that will make it 720$ right?
ive been thinking bout the bike thing because of gas prices! Just scared of getting hit on the streets :hyper:

i believe my credit was bout the same. if u commute as much as i do (i mean.. i put 5k miles on the bike in under 4 months... thats the equvilent of 20k miles of wear put on a car in under 4 months. the depreciation of a bike is real quick. just like them rotaries, haha)
anywho, if u take those CHP certified bike courses and commute like me as well as other recommended self-requisites, then go for it. don't let cars crashing into u turn u into a sissy. in my experience of bikes for 8 going on 9 years now. bike accidents are probly 98% the motorcyclist fault for being negligent. lane splitting 100+ by cars (which i do sometimes, which is utterly retarded on my part) is wat causes accident.
i can go on forever on this. bust out a sheet of paper and title it "getting a bike". make two colomns, ones saying "worth it?" and the other saying "not worth it." and ask urself questions ur concerned with. do i communte 70+ miles a day?? do i drive in the rain alot?? can i afford insurance?? etc. u'll know urself better than anyone can tell u advice, just be honest with urself.

just do ur best to invest ur money in long term use. priorities in order: college, job, house, fun time, and lastly, find a broad, make some damn babies to pass on ur last name. end of story

oh and insurance company i have is called McGraw... couple of my friends have them too. cheapest ive ever seen yet. curious to see wat AAA has to offer but u have to have at least 3 years with a M1 liscence to meet their requirements.

i got a scholarship and my grand parents were going to pay my tuition, but since that's covered, they pay my rent. i do some internet bullshit for my parents part time(pays really well) and sold some apple stocks a couple of years ago for a few thousand. i just pay for food, clothing, music equipment, car shit, and alcohol. not much to pay for. i almost have 18k saved up. just gotta live by "don't fix it if it ain't broke/empty/torn/cantdriftgood/outdated". that money is for when i'm really out on my own... or if my coupe really needs an ls1 for some ungodly reason. i'm just lucky though. most of my friends only ever have a grand in the bank at most.

I worked for UPS and paid for my college tuition. I slept in my car many school days cuz the freakin south bay traffic is nuts, not to mention the parking sucks hairy ball sacks. Lived off peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and brought my own coffee like it was my personal crack stash. Bottom line I saved up as much of my income as possible and made it though. If anything I spent my $ on clothes, but not on car parts.

Scraping sucks, but if you stay focus and accomplish your goals then you'll look back and lllllllaaaaugh.....

How old are you right now? And i agree yes most of my friends also have like 500$ in the bank and they work 2 jobs. I used to work two jobs and that was the way i saved up a lot of money but since i quit one because it was stressful for just working and working the saving up has declined BIG TIME! I still manage to save lots of money though (not a big spender of taking the girl out to eat to a restaurant heck i just told her recently that she better get used to going halfy's on the tab lolz)

haha reminds me of when i was about 8 or 10 i had a batman piggy bank and i put a bunch of quarters and dollars and when it was full my mom and sister pressured me into breaking it to get the money so i did and all this change came out and they took some of my money:sadwavey: lol ..but they gave it back just messing with me.

I was working part time and only saved money for long term goals to support my family overseas. I was scrapping pretty much and didn't do much to my car back then.

I was also a full-time student.

Honestly just read that book lol. It talks about setting up ira's, cd's, savings accounts, checking accouts, what to do with credit cards, and also how to scrape by while trying more ways to make money. I hate reading but its definitly an easy read.
Personally I was fortunate enough to have my parents pay for college, they own a contracting business and Im going for construction management. :coold: I've probably lost some of my savings by making some really dumb mistakes in "investing" and buying parts I ended up never using. Also, if you ever sell/trade something, make sure its fully documented and signed by both parties (lost some there too). I would think that Im sitting pretty okay as far as what I have but then again I go to school full time (14 hours) and taking summer school right now (7 hours) and work around 60 hours a week. I usually don't go out during the week and don't do to many "expensive" things on the weekend. I go on vacation with my family if its a "family" trip but otherwise the I have only gone on a couple trips "with friends." I don't have a significant other and thats a big place to loose money lol, just make sure you guys go halves and try not to eat out much, huge waste of money. Cook for your girlfriend, you'll save money and she'll be happier than ever (unless you suck at cooking lol) Save your change, don't give it to bumbs :p Only get one credit card, (don't check your credit too often) and if you can resist, carry some cash (that way you know how much you have left thats spendable for the week or month instead of putting it on the credit card where you won't know how much you already put on it.) If your running over alot on your cell phone, talk less or move up a plan. Going from 50 to 60 dollars is cheaper than paying 120 in overages every month. Just simple shit really. Have fun but save while your doing it, itll treat you better in the long run.
My outlook, don't vacation/travel much now, instead work and gain value so that when I have saved up enough value I can go travel with money and get the full experience instead of traveling poor and not being able to do anything lol.

I'm 19

I live at home

go to a community college

I had a job ( just recently got fired )

never lived paycheck to paycheck but that seems like what people generally do
