Alright so this week I decided to paint my corner lights. I went to Micheal's and picked up a can of Krylon stain glass paint in yellow. I took the corners, washed them with soapy water and then wet sanded them with 600 grit sandpaper. After the lights were dry I sprayed them with about 6 coats ( the first coat will look yellow but as you apply more they get darker). After I had the color i was looking for I let them dry for about 2hrs and then I reinstalled them. :bigok:

There are others as well, that one was just the first I found.
But hey, you're only 17. I'm sure everything is still new and exciting to you right now.

I understand that. That's why I didn't flame him and lock the Thread.
Just stating that it's been done before. I know there are more threads than that one too.
Good looking out though Neme. Protect the n00bs from the evil Mod. :keke:

I did almost the same method, but went with a different route; robbed a local RC hobby shop, bought couple small JDM size bottles of Tamiya Translucent Orange Paintx4 @ $2.00 a pop (JDM style haha!), a fine coarse paint brush fo $1.00 dolla; painted dat sucka with 3 coats and turned out bright amber for my Zenki Turn Signals and Corner lights after it dried and polished with meguiar's polish.......

i personally think it looks good on all the colors except for the burgundy color. i painted my lights from the outside, i just taped off everything except the lens.

You painted it while it was on the car?!
All you gotta do is take 1 screw out and pop it out, haha
I was debating to do the amber on my car, but decided not to and just smoked out all my lights. :)

man. i did this. but the spray bottle was retarded and didnt come with a nozzle. lol so i jacked one from one of my old duplicolor cans and it didnt fit right. so i got so much spray on my arms and the ground and there were bubbles in teh lights. looks good from afar though =)

thinkin bout doin this same stuff. there was a write up about it and the guy used some JDM amber paint called vans or somethin. its on Ebay under my watched items. lol
but i'm not sure how its gonna look on my green car.
Vinny you got pics of your smoked lights? I've always liked smoked ish.

umm you guys are spraying the outside of the lens?
Bad idea, its meant to be coated on the inside. Almost every single headlamp with a clearcoat ends up peeling and hazing from dust/rocks.
Go on ebay, grab a set of clear corners, open them up and coat the reverse side.

+1. The S14 is one of the only cars with proper clear lens ever sold in the US. Nearly every other car owner breaks their necks to get the UK clear stuff shipped over or buy cheesy Ebay strobe lights and you guys go and ruin it by painting the shit orange. I guess it's Halloween.

Why not spend about the same ammount of money, get a cooler look, and protect the headlights at the same time... FUNCTION>FORM = Xpel headlight protection

Smoked out all my lights (taillights too). Pictures don't do it much justice, better in person.

you cant spray stock corners on the inside b/c of the fluting, it collects in the ravines and you basically end up with striped corners

my highbeams are yellow as well.

08-13-2008, 07:08 PM
ya, but my lowbeams are hids :P
and when I turn on my highbeams, my lowbeams go off, hahahaha
When I flash people, they get retarded like they're in a rave. I kinda like it. I drive down backroads sometimes with the fogs and highbeams only. Looks kinda neat.

i used tamiya clear orange spray paint. sanded w/ 800-1200, sprayed 3 coats. gives a real amber look without being too orange.

i think as long as you put enough coats on the corners it should be fine.

Woah: are you talking about the of the headlight being black? if so i would just keep the corners the same color... black headlights with amber corners would look somewhat gaudy(sp?)
Amber corners and turns, only pic I have right now.

these are the corners http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j51/intense7/BlackCorner.jpg
when painting it amber will the black be blended in with the amber color? making it like nasty darkish orangnish black color? you guys get my point?

if you put enough layers of amber all you will see is amber.

if the end results end up not an improvement, can you take off the paint and make it like it never happened or is it permanent?

Don't do it, it will look ugly.
You should have started off with OEM corners, as it will give a better reflection of the light from the light bulb and a noticeable shade of amber (day/night).

yah, it just takes time and patience... Remove Headlights, Clean them up, sand them down, polish them, then paint 3 layers and so far no peeling and looks OEM lol
