alt not charging.

I have a KA alt on my SR. Went to go sign up for classes this morning and noticed my Apexi autometer was flashing 10.8V. Took the alt and batt to autozone to get them tested. Both tested good. I even had them charge the battery.

So I get home, put everything back on, and now I'm having the same problem. When I started the car it read 13.3V. Drove down the street and it went down to 10.8V again.

There is a 75A fuse for the alt which is also still good.

Anyone have any ideas?

FSM? They have troubleshooting procedures specifically for this ;)

What I would do is to test the wires coming out/into the alternator - making sure the ground wire has continuity to the battery, then making sure the power wire has continuity to the battery, make sure alt belt isn't loosey goosey, etc.

Right from the get go, looks like you have either a dirty ground/power wire or weak battery/alternator since you only get 13.3v.

Hey, i just had this problem few days ago and fixed it. Are you seeing the battery and the brake lights on your dash. This is the very first sign that your alternator is dieing. Also a quick way to check is to remove your positive battery cable i beleive, and if it dies your alternator is dieing. IF this is the case new alternator time :P.

If not, check your wire coming out of the alternator going into the fuse box under the hood. Make sure you have good connections and nothing is being shorted. i blew the 100 amp fuse doing so.

Check to make sure all the plugs on the back of the alternator are good. Take them off, use sand paper to get better contact and plug them back in. If you have a weak ground on the alternator, the charge and fluctuate!
