Anyone know the correct TPS settings for an S13 blacktop SR?? I think mine is out of spec causing my car to stumble. I have found the specs for the KA and the S14 SR. Should my settings be the same as the S14 SR?

Just for reference:

DOHC KA
Accelerator Pedal Condition Resistance in k Ohms
Completely released Approx. 2
Partially released 2 -10
Completely depressed Approx. 10
output voltage at idle 0.45 - 0.55 volts.

S14 SR
Accelerator Pedal Condition Resistance in k Ohms
Completely released Approx. 0.7
Partially released 0.7 - 5
Completely depressed Approx. 5
output voltage at idle 0.45 - 0.55 volts.

Thanks for any help.

Are you getting these readings from an MDM-100???
I also have the same problem my car idles very low, like it wants to shut off at times. I just had my coolant temp sensor change but it still didn't change much. If you find out the right setting post em please.

The info I posted was from factory service manuals. And I'm using a digital multimeter that can test volts and ohms to check the TPS. I'm also having that problem at idle even though I have the bov recircuilated. I'm just trying to check all the sensors right now. Will changing the coolant temp sensor affect the idle? Maybe I should try that also. Do you have a part # for it?

Anyone got the specs??

The specs are the same for the s13 sr as well as the s14 sr.

My TPS was all outa whack when I first installed my motor. would bounce around like crazy. Never had an idle problem just caused the car to run super rich.

You stock/aftermarket BOV might still be leaking even though it's recirculating.

I'd lean more to trying to find a leak somewhere in the system than checking the TPS.

However to make sure your TPS is fine, just make sure that is stays at a certain voltage at a certain Throttle percentage. You can do this with the car off. Pwr on. Thats how I found mine was bad. I would step on the throttle 50% and my AVC-R woudl bounce around from 20-80%.

G'luck!

Thanks for the info Jed. My TPS is way off then, because at full throttle it was reading 12 k ohms. And at idle it was at about 2 k ohms.

If I can't get the settings close enough to spec, which would you recommend: having the idle closer to spec? or having full throttle closer to spec? So the idle voltage should be between .45 - .55 volts, what should the full throttle voltage be?

I believe it's 5.

On my tps I don't experience any problems when I have it closer to idle spec. At full throttle my Throttle position sensor doesn't read 100% more like 96-98. Not to big of a deal, as I haven't gotten around to messing around with it in a long time.

I'd say making sure the ECU knows the throttle plate is closed is the most important. As you adust the TPS you'll notice the idle change. Idle can range anywhere from 600rpm to a grand. Adjust until 700-800 and you should be good.
