I can't wait to do some serious traveling. I constantly daydream about it and watching the Travel Channel only fuels the desire. My college was offering a trip to England, Switzerland, and a few other places but it was during the same time I had summer school. Hopefully I'll be free next summer and I'll try to go through school...if they're offering a similar trip that is.

Just a few places I want to visit:
Australia
Barbados
China
Czech. Republic
Denmark
France
Germany
Hong Kong
Indonesia
Italy
Japan
Malaysia
Maldives
Malta
Mauritius
Monaco
Reunion
South Africa
Spain
Switzerland
The Netherlands
The UK

...I'll stop there. Basically, I want to see the majority of the world, especially those places you rarely hear about like Luxembourg for example.

Japan is pretty much #1 on places I must visit. Instead of getting fucked up on my 21st birthday, I'm hoping to travel there and make it the "trip of a lifetime." I want to stay there for a few weeks and touch the major cities. Obviously it's gonna be expensive but I have 2 years to start saving up. I'm gonna have to deprive myself of quite a few stuff.

I'm also looking at travel careers. It would be pretty cool to have a job where I have to travel to different places while I'm still young and not settled down yet.

The coolest place I've been to ever.

Probably Iwo Jima.

It's not a exactly a tourist spot so that makes it special for those who have gone and seen the place.

Not cool in a sense, but just moments of awe the whole time there.

I heard the dollar is pretty good throughout SE Asia?

right now it isn't the best deal. us$ has been in steady decline for the past couple of years now.

my last trip to Hong Kong last yr was a good deal more costly than when I visited a few yrs before that. spent like $500 more ea. week, all else equal. I can't even imagine how places in Japan and Korea would be like! Malaysia and Thailand might still be a good deal for us dollar waving americans though.

the beaches in the south of Thailand suppose to be even better than the pictures now....

because after the tsunami, the waves supposedly bought the new sand up onto the top....

and when they were clearing the debris and corpses, they picked up all the litter too....

but, i dunno....

i haven't been in thailand in 4 years now....

i have to check it out for myself next year....

Thailand also have other stuff too besides beaches, such as chicks and food!!!

To true, we went to Phi Phi and Phuket this year [and Bangkok and Chiang Mai], theres very little sign of the tsunami left except for everything is lush and fresh.

I don't wanna brag too much about our exchange rate currently but £1 GBP = 65 Baht. We had a meal in Chiang Mai for four of us, two big courses, about 6 different dishes and rice AND beers for £9, thats about $18 USD. AMAZING food too.

Riding elephants in Chiang Mai, visiting a Bhuddist temple 3500ft up a mountain, kayaking through a tropical storm, finding hidden beaches with no access except for trekking through a forest, all part of visiting Thailand, the place is awesome.

I'm into art history stuff so England, Russia, France, and Greece are the countries I want to visit sometime in the future. One place I don't mind going back is Boracay in the Philippines. That place basically ruined NJ for me, I live in Long Beach Island and I haven't been on the beach since the Boracay trip. Basically, I haven't been on any beaches at all. Hard to forget the white sandy beaches.

As far as Boracay, trust me, there are alot more options now. That place turned into a fucking tourist trap. Palawan is great but you can pretty much go to any island down south of manila and find beaches thats better than boracay.

My advice if your going to the south island in Thailand, spend like 2/3 days in Phuket and save as much as you can for Phi Phi. Phuket is nice, as long as you stay away from Patong Beach, that sucks its so commercial.

Phi Phi is heaven on earth - no roads, theres like 1 car on the whole island that they use to carry cases around the Bay View hotel. Its so remote and picturesque you'll not want to leave.

I'd like to add Egypt into the mix too, we went there in 2005 - Pyramids and history is amazing, Cairo is mad, Sharm El Sheik was nice when we went, its blown up big time now though so don't know what its like any more. Diving is awesome in Sharm too.

Thailand - if the place looks like a shack with random cats walking around but is FULL of Thai people - food is good and cheap. If the place looks clean, crisp, modern and is full of Phalang [foreingers] - food is probably watered-down over priced crap aimed at Westerners.

You have rice or noodles with everything, even breakfast. Food is mostly hot or warm at least. Pad Thai is a popular dish, Tom Yun Goong is good too, but very hot usually. Just try everything man, prawns are huge out there too. This is HALF a fucking prawn, I kid you not. I thought it was a lobster.

http://images41.fotki.com/v1252/photos/4/43405/6174343/IMG_0533-vi.jpg

rome would definitely be a challenge I'd imagine!! actually driving in almost all older european cities can be a pita, as they don't typically use a city blocks. I was able to do ok in bologna, parma, and even florence. driving on the autostrada (freeway) and country rds in Italy was an unbeatably enjoyable experience though. might have also had something to do with never running into any cops either, but ymmw.

Damn, makes me want to go to thailand now. Gotta start saving money... Is it easy to get around thailand with english? Cause in vietnam and singapore it seems like everyone speaks english or understands it enough to get around.

Yeah you can get around fine, all the signs and place names are written in both the Thai and Western alphabets. Only problem you might have is the smaller shacks and restaurants used by Thai locals [i.e the best ones] don't have english translations on the menu. But all you need to know then is basic Thai food names.
