This is the 3rd starter in 5 months. First, it just went. Second one had a flat spot, 3rd one (today) just happened. Conveniently on New Years eve (missed my party with the woman) coming back from supper.

Just some questions. How does a starter die? Anyway I can tell if its going to die in the near future? Any gauges I can buy/hookup that let me know electrical current of the car so I can tell if stuff is starting to go wiggy? Does the alternator affect the starter in anyway, and vice versa? Would an aftermarket stereo (2 amps, 360w and 100w) kill a starter consistently?

thanks for the help. Hopefully the answers are better than my ruined new year. ;)

sorry about the news but I doubt that your stereo would have any impact on the life of your starter, sounds more like you're burning them out somehow.......maybe too much friction in the drivetrain?

Can't be the stereo! I'm pushing much more and my starter is A-Okay!

Well, just got the phone call on what happened. Turns out the ground wire from my battery had to be replaced. Yes, this boggles me. ;) But it works now. So this effectively killed power to mostly everything, but allowed a little bit of juice to flow to confuse me by turning on the accessories.

somedays I wonder about cars. Sometimes more confusing than girls. :D
