so basically long story short my sr took a shit on itself, i plan on rebuilding it but i wanted to fully build it, i made a list and didnt realize how much this is gonna cost. in all honesty i would want between 400-500whp. ive been told from a lot of people i dont NEED to fully build it to do it, but i also want it to be reliable. does anyone have any info for me of some parts that i wouldnt need to go all out on to save me some money? thanks guys!

oil pump shit itself....the bearings didnt "spin" just got really hot spotted up, but there was a shit load of metal in the oil pan from the oil pump gears so had to take it all apart to clean and stuff so i figured may as well build it, but idk if i need to fully build it to get what i want out of it, but at the same time i dont want it to blow right after i start getting in the mid 4's mark... you know?

id say pistons, cams, head gasket, head/main studs, valve springs, rods, bearings. you dont really need to do all this. but first get the block cleaned and maybe the head, since you found metal in the oil you wanna make sure all the oil galleys and everything else has no metal. but thats just my few cents thats where im headed right now in my rebuild.

getting a sr up to 400hp isnt super hard but building it will help you keep it form blowing it up

Motor aside invest in other precautions as well, get a really good tune because thats what makes and breaks many motors even built ones. Get gauges to monitor your oil pressure/temps as well as A/F ratios to prevent any messy situations especially when you track the car. Also a good investment on any car that is driven hard is an oil cooler. Gotta keep those oil temps down and running good oil helps as well. Just my .02 cents.

As far as engine look for obvious things, pistons, rings, bearings, studs, headgasket, valvetrain etc.

Thats assuming the crank didnt shit itself...

Anyways, im going about to go thru this shit too. Right now, im looking at $4k just in parts alone. Thats not including labor, miscellaneous lil crap and the Murphy Effect.

Also, having a fully built engine wouldnt mean jack shit if you dont have a good tuning setup. Over 400hp dependable with a romtune isnt exactly kosher...nor is 370cc injectors gonna be fun...

yea the block is going to the machine shop as soon as i figure out what pistons i wanna go with, i was thinking the wiseco 9.1:1 but the block is gonna get hot tanked and everything so it all gets cleaned out well

the crank should be fine, just needs micropolished i think, and my buddy is building it for me so i got lucky on the labor part.... i just wish i could get what i wanted a little cheaper

the car will be tuned well, im most likely going with aem ems, it will be tuned at national speed in wilmington nc, i want a low boost/pump gas setting and a high boost/race fuel setting and i will eventually have all the fuel and intake mods when its all said and done, im just trying to figure out how to get it done quicker

i'm in the same boat. Just had oil coming out of the dip stick so it's a blow by but the car start just really bad idle and oil on cyl 2 spark plug. Gonna drain the oil and see if there's any metal than pull the head and see if I just need rings or something else is broken. Might just replace the rings with OE if the pistons are still good and no metal in the oil pan.

If I have to replace the pistons than I'm thinking about the mahle or wiseco. Not sure if I need or want to do the rods as well, but def. doing the MHG and head studs. So lucky this didn't happen on the track. The exhaust is not smoking though but that could be a matter of time.

So are you going to make a build thread on INC? when is this going to begin?
