A member of the BMW Sauber F1 team received one hell of a shock when the squad’s test driver Christian Klien pulled into the pits in the modified F1.07C after a test run at Jerez. As soon as the mechanic touched the F1 car that was equipped with the experimental Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) he received an electric shock that knocked him off his feet –literally. Luckily, the mechanic didn’t sustain any serious injuries.

“During testing of the KERS car at the Jerez track this morning, there was an incident involving a mechanic,” a BMW Sauber spokesman explained. “When the car returned to the pits, he touched it and suffered an electric shock. He sustained slight injuries to his left hand and grazing on his left arm.” -Watch the video after the jump

i dunno what the purpose of that does to the f1 car but if we could only do that to our street cars for theft purposes :drama:

cars with bad grounds will give you a good shock every now and then... it's kind of fun

lol. reminds me of our walmart. we have this new weird floor in it. and so when you push the carts around it generates electricity. you can seriously shock the crap outta people. and when you are walkin you can hear it generating. but they put metal wire that skims the ground for a ground. theres one or two without it though. hehe.

Wait...how do you get shocked with a carbon fiber body?!?!

Wait...how do you get shocked with a carbon fiber body?!?!

alot of voltage.

EDIT: actually now that i think of it, carbon conducts very well.

KERS - kinetic energy recovery system. f1 cars are supposed to be using hybrid power next year.

ever do the car fur/ glass rod experiment? Shocks work fine with non conductors.

And carbon is a badass at conduction. However, the resin in the CF probably prevents carbon conduction from really mattering. Probably just a massive form of static electricity combined with their new system that probably didnt ground out right
