does the car really neeeeeeeed it?
like does it serve a function besides deadening the sound or does it protect what is on the driver's side from the heat of the engine?
what I am saying is... can I just rip that stuff out and the only side effect being the car is a little louder?

Yeah, people do it all the time..it does make it louder, but it depends if you are running carpet also.. Use dry ice.
why are you taking it out?

well I already removed the rest of the carpet and sound deadening and I figured I might as well pull that out too, given that there is no functional (besides noise) purpose for the stuff.

and I don't need dry ice for that... its the stuff with the padding underneath that you can just pull off. it's attached to the firewall using those tabs...

Pull it off. It's so much easier than taking off the rest.

Oh, my bad, must have misread the title. Yeah, do it, nothing is supported by it.

This material is primarily for sound deadening. I pulled mine and the car did make a bit more noise inside. But not by much. Then again i have no insulation deadening material in the car, just fresh paint :bigok:

FIRE mat... keeping it... don't want to catch on fire. then again, it seems to have some very flammable carpeting material underneath it lol, I'll just keep it. thanks for help.

Mr Trance, be sure to wear shoes with a hard sole. One of my pair of boots with a soft sole is starting to melt at the right heel from the heat. Your car going to be ready for the event?

The firewall insultation is not glued on. They're just held on by clips. You can pull the insulation off by hand with no tool.
