So...my girlfriend just recently got a new bike (of the pedal variety) and we decide to start parking our bikes in the 1st story of our house (2nd floor is house, 1st is storage/garage area...think of it as looking like a basement. garage door isn't functional, no lighting).

As we wheeled them in there we noticed the severely pungent stench of death. So...I come back with a flashlight only to find 12 dead rats. The landlord came by and laid out poison for them a couple weeks ago, and I had forgotten about it. So...I got to shovel out 12 "so-dead-maggots-are-coming-out-of-them-as-i-move-them" rats...totally not cool. But hey. I guess that takes care of that.

there is a side door to the first floor for the in and outs. I'll see if its still light enough to take a picture of the pile of rats

pictures I'm DLing off the camera now.

as far as the smell man...I dunno. Try...an uncooked steak sitting in 100+ degree heat till just before the maggots show up, then shower it with mayonnaise and let it sit another day. then, go stand next to it, light your leg hair on fire as you shave your head into a pile of hair next to the steak. Following the incineration of your leg hair, piss on the pile of your hair clippings then set it ablaze. Once the hair is on fire, lean close to the steak and draw in a big nasally breath.*

*This description should only be interpreted to assimilate oneself with the 'idea' of something that smells comparable, but not perfectly similiar.

vomit...no. to vomit in this situation would have been passé I suppose.

I won't lie...I did come close though. I forgot an interesting tidbit to the story:

I come back in after rat no. 6 and begin the search anew. I looked in one corner near the furnace and see one scurry towards me, perhaps to make a break beneath my legs? So my initial reaction was to let the shovel do the talkin...and I thing I broke it's front legs with the first hit. I felt like shit for doing that and not making it quick and clean...that's when I felt most like throwing up...(imagine, if you will, the aforementioned smell coupled with watching a *still living but covered in maggots, twitching with two broken legs* rat writhing on the floor. So...I hit it again and tossed it out the door.

I wish the pictures had come out better and that I had had my camera present at the time of the post-apocalyptic cleanup, alas I was only able to get a few of the rodent pile I amassed outside. If they are still there I will try to take more pictures tomorrow. Thinking of it now, perhaps I should have lined them up in a row...old west/police lineup style...

These last two are 'rat no. 7' the one I tossed out the door. didn't quite make to the rest of the bunch.

i remember my old house at one time there was a few rats in teh attic. Supposibly i was the only one who heard em cuz they would meet up above my room and break dance at night . so i bought some rat poison and went in the attic and placed poison in different areas.. eventually a few weeks later.. all the rats where gone.. What was cool is they decided to run outside and die.. so it was easy to clean em up... Luckily they didnt die in the attic that would have sucked.

Poor rats. What's wrong with rats? They make good pets. Just feed them and they wont eat your stuff.

I heard that having a rat as a pet is better than having a small dog. They're more territorial and a lot cleaner. I wouldn't know i'm a cat person.

beer and a grill would drastically improve your situation with the rats.

I have a new disdain for rats that I didn't have before. I don't know that I feel as nostalgic about things like "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" as I used to...haha

I do think it'd be crazy sweet to see, instead of a mouse driving around my house in an ambulance or a motorcycle, a mouse drifting one of my model 240s around the house...
