eBay Motors: BUILT sr20det shortblock (item 260266579643 end time Jul-28-08 19:25:42 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260266579643&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123)

this guy is selling built blocks for $800, saying "just trust me im a pro"
i was about to buy it then im thinking the parts alone are worth more than that, he didnt respond to inquiries about references... not gonna buy a built block built by some idiot.. cos i can pretty much do that myself.
now if this guy has some reputation around the community, thats a completely different story, and $800 for that is a steal (he says he can do another one just like that).

I wouldnt do it.....

What recourse would you have if you end up with crap......?

Exactly! Dont do it period! Esp if they are not even a reputable company. You have to get them from companies you've heard of, and like you said you could just do it your self with some friends help. Its easier, more fun, and cheaper possibly.

You would be hard pressed just to find the parts for that price. Something is sketchy about that. How is he able to supply all the parts, machine work, and labour, as well as turn enough of a profit to make it worth his while for $800?

I'm sure someone already bought it.

He posts on our local forum (northwestnissans.com)--I'm sure someone has bought a motor from him before, but not anyone I know offhand.

thats why im trying to find out if this guy is legit. rods and pistons alone are $800 + $100 bearings, + $100 arp mains, + $$$ machining the crank (if he really did).

who knows, he probably stole 'em. :/

JE Pistons for SR have valve reliefs, those don't. Also, he only has 2 feedback. It does look nice though:)

If someone is truly trustworthy, they wouldn't have to say, "trust me".

1) Anyone can take a picture and say "I made this and it's shiney"
2) Alhough his feedback is 100% he still doesn't have enough of a rep
3) The parts cost more than the total price (but you never know, he could have a REAL discount from a shop orrrrrr a 5 fingah discount also from a shop)

See how many he sells in the next couple months or find him on the aformentioned forum to ask Q's.

I'd link it with the too good to be true category...

Is there anybody in OR that would like to go up there and check it out?

SCAM.

That is all.

Yeah, I'd wait awhile on this one.... 700 bucks for a "revamped" sr engine with only 30k before rebuilt.....

Ok.

looks like his good feedback just doubled if it was at 2. Everyone starts a 0 and this guy might be a pro like he says, but you can bet his prices go up when his feedback does. I wouldn't take the chance but someone will, feeling lucky?

Appears to be an oem rebuild, w/o showing pics of the rods. IMO $800 for a SR block thats been hot tanked, resurfaced, had the clearences checked, and rebuilt w/ bearings, new oem pistons, ARP mains etc. Is worth it, but yes this deal is too good to be true.

He also only has 1 feedback as a seller, granted it was an sr that got him the one positive feedback.

If you look at his feedback the only person who bought a motor from him was
sinisterdrifter. If you look at sinisterdrifter's feedback you can see that all the stuff he bought is pretty much what's in the rebuild in fenixrestorations SR20 auctions...

Interesting...

LOL. Notice how someone is bidding on it with zero feedback. The guy who bought the first SR had low feedback as well. Prob just the same guy with multiple accounts.

yo are 100% correct my friend. sinisterdrifter also just "bought" a rebuilt 4age from fenixrestorations

and sinisterdrifter has less than stellar feedback.

i am staying far far away :goyou:

Shady shady shady. No successful business man would try to sell his wares with that type of approach. Real businessmen don't sell like that. Sad thing is some poor sucker probably bought it.

Better to get your own spare block, an FSM, and tear it down. Have a reputable machine shop do the machine work for you, and then assemble yourself. I used to be terrified of cars and motors when I was younger until I realized it's just bolts. If it can be taken apart, it can be put back together. Just take your time. There is nothing better than knowing you've done all the work on your car from top to bottom. I have the benefit of having a friend who owns a machine shop so I can do it all myself, or he can do it for me.

Good luck with your build.

i have to agree. there are no cons to this except the seller.

LOL seriously

I mean if its a part that is straight forward, like you're bidding on a can opener or something, not a big deal, you don't need to see it to really buy it online

But a built motor?

I dunno man...if you are able to buy a motor (in any shape) with 4 pics and a couple sentences on ebay, you are more brave than I
