so lately i have been trying to get more and more info on whats going down in Aussie, drifting wise. And from alot of my readings and searching i have found alot of them run or want to run Trust T518Z.
just wondering if anyone here in the states runs one. or if anyone can compare it to the gt2871r .
also are their any vendors who can get the T518z. trying to find US pricing on one... but well ya no luck there.
here is a setup that alot ppl run( companies and such vary):SR
Trust T158z 8cm
740cc injectors
264/264 10.5 lift cams
Boshc 040 fuelpump
Power FC
Z32 maf
1.4bar/21psi 365whp
so any input guys

From what I've read, they said that that turbo will spool about the same as the 2871R, just a tad slower due to the slightly larger wheels and being journal bearing, but will have a little more top end power.
Here's the thing though, the T518Z is a journal bearing turbo, that means you can rebuild it.
If I didn't have this HKS GT2530 turbo already I'd be hunting down the T518Z setup right now. When I'm done with the GT2530 I'm still going to look into the T518Z though...

yea seems like a good alternative to the GT2871r since it offers more a lil more power
my other problem is finding some one who sells them....

Isnt that T518z is just pretty much Mitsu's TD05 18G?
If its the same this might actually looks like a good deal

Find out the wheel sizes (comp. exducer and turb. inducer) and I can tell you the Garrett equivalent of it. I'm not familiar with Trust turbos but I have a feeling your talking different frame sizes when comparing it to a GT2871R. Thats like saying which is better, a GT2560R or a GT2871R, they perform differently and have advantages and disadvantages.

check out this turbo:
TurboByGarrett.com - Catalog (http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT30/GT3071R_700382_3.htm)
They are easy to find in the US and spool pretty quick.

I've had both a T518Z and a GT2871R .63 trim. The biggest difference between the 2 is the power delivery. Its alot more linear on the 2871, on the T518, its more of an ON/OFF switch . T518Z also makes a bit less power, 350-360 is the most you'd see out of it. To me, theres only 2 advantage the T518Z got over the 2871. 1) Its journal bearing so its rebuildable, $80 for the whole kit. 2) Its only oil cooled, wont have to mess around with stupid waterlines. Also this turbo is a bolt on setup like a T28 turbo...
Personally, the only reason alot more people overseas run the T518Z is because they are more readily available than a GT2871R, specially in japan. Australians get more of their stuff from Japan, rather than from the states.
PS: If anybody wants my T518Z, you can have it for $250 shipped, needs a rebuild tho and need to mod the actuator...
