Slow acceleration

My 1991 KA24DE manual is accelerating really slowly. In 1st through 3rd, it is most noticable. One I am cruising on the interstate, it can accelerate normal though. Almost feels like I lost some torque.
Here is what I can think of:

I know my exhuast is very leaky. Maybe my cat is clogged?

It may need a tuneup. I have only had the car for 13,000miles. The fuel filter was done 5k ago.

The pedal is very stiff and very sticky. Maybe the throttle body is clogged? Could it be that it accelerates slowly becuase the butterfly valve opens slowly?

Search turned up somethign about an AIV valve?

Worst case is I am losing compression, running on 3 cylinders, or I need a rebuild :(

Any other ideas?

Major tune up.

Then if the problem persists you'll be able to diagnose it.

Does the car feel like there is a lot of back pressure on it. Check the cat...just get under the car and give it a couple taps. If you hear anything rattling around inside, odds are the cat is clogged up. If it's not the cat...try a major tuneup like foxcolt suggested.

A few weeks ago I put new plugs and a K&N square filter in my 93, and it seemed to give it alot of pep......but now 2 weeks later it seems sluggish again. I'd noticed a little oxidation on my rear 2 plugs that I replaced. Maybe the prior owner powerwashed it? I hope thats all it is.

Okay, thanks for the replies.

I hit the cat with a rubber mallet and it sounded like you would expect, no rattles or loose stuff.

I cleaned the throttle body and checked the MAF and piping for clogs. It all looked pretty good. Air filter and fuel filters are still new.

Injectors look good.

Plugs looked fine (thanks, PDM racing!)

Then I looked at the rear wheels when jacked up. The calipers are siezed. Looks like I need new calipers, pads, and rotors. I'll look into bleeding it and chekcing the parking brake cable.

This is good, becuase it explains the shimmy, the slow acceleratin, the squeaks, and the bad brakes.

Are you sure your calipers are seized? I'm not being a smart ass, but I thought the same thing and then I realized I had the e-brake on and my car was in gear. I would doubt your calipers were seized. However in your case it could be the problem.

Mo offense taken. I did make sure to leav it in neurtal witht he parking brake off. I spun the wheel both ways too. I could see it grinding :eek:

Alright, that's good! I bought new rotors and pads from www.irotors.com. They are very cheap for cross drilled and slotted, except you cant get the cadmium coated so they will show spots. i got them for $280 shipped. if you are interested in them and they give you a different price tell them u are from the 240sx group and ask for KIM. maybe if you tell them a return customer Todd Nappi sent you they will hook you up too. But i guarantee you will not find all four rotors and pads for cheaper. Plus it is a really easy install on our cars!
