View Full Version : Is it ok to jack an S14 up from this point?

I was originally going to try for the rails but my car is too low. I jsut read on here that you can jack up under the front tow hook and use that spot for jack stands but wanted to know for future reference if I could also use that spot in the picture. Oh and sorry, camera phone ftl.

well being as they aren't really made for it i wouldn't leave a jack under there for too long, maybe just to get it jacked up then toss some stands under there, what about some low ramps or something under the tires so you can get to the framerails?

Do not jack the frame rails it will sometimes crush them!!! just jack it on the body seam just behind the front fender

I tried jacking the frame rail but the stand actually made the rail dented. It not strong enough to hold the car. Any other good place?

rear diff or the front rad support where your nismo power brace is bolted.

Wouldnt the cross member be a better spot than the rad support? Also, Im going go purchase some 2x4 to use as ramps. Is this a good size to use between the jackstand and car as well?

On my s13 I just drive it onto boards that are about 1 inch thick each and quite long... if I need more clearance, then I inch onto another board that I stacked on top of one another. From there I jack from the cross member or differential.

My jack doesn't go high enough to get jack stands under the frame rails so I throw a second jack somewhere for slight peace of mind. Be safe, tow hooks are scary, and I have had a jack slip off when I was in the process of jacking. Good thing I wasn't under it, it was a scary experience and would most certainly have been killed or pinned and seriously injured.

Don't trust 2800 pounds to something you're not sure about.

The front cross member, the bellhousing, tow hooks and differential are sturdy places.

I typically will use the front cross member, bellhousing and/or differential to lift my 240sx off the ground.

buy ramps for it, there are a few out there that are made for lowered cars.
i would jack it up anywhere its not supposed to be jacked. then again, i work in Occupation Safety =p

haha i just have my buddy pull like shit to get my car a little higher. we got a low pro. jack so it gets under there pretty easily. lol

lift from diff. then lift from crossmember of tranny.

Crossmember is fine.

Just don't be dumb and try jacking it up by the oil pan.

I'm not a fan of raising it from the bellhousing so I wouldn't suggest it.

Tow hooks would be a good bet.

Also, don't jack up from the radiator support.

For the rear, diff and subframe/subframe mounts are fine. Along with the tow hook.

Don't jack it where the tranny crossmember is....You will crush the tranny crossmember!!!!

See Factory Manual Services.....And follow the instuction.....

According to my car's height (LOW)....., I couldn't reach straight to the front subframe, which is the point you can jack in order to lift the front end said by Factory manual Services.....Therefore, to lift the front end of the car, what I did was that I used the factory's jack that comes with the car....And, jack it a little where the beam or whatever that's called is...It's located right behind the fender.........Or, if you cannot find a factory's jack, you can use any kind of jack but be sure to put a piece of wood underneath the rail of beam, or it will damage the beam rail.......Then, when one side's lifted, I am sure that there will be some more space for you to slide the bigger jack underneath the car and possibly make it to the front crossmember.......

Don't ever jack the tranny crossmember Or, it will be crushed.....We all want the car to look as what thier first day they came....Tranny crossmember won't be able to hold that kind of weight like that......

In some certain cases, the other point you can jack if you want to lift the front end is trannsmission case where the trannsmission and the engine meet.......But, I don't recommemend doing that though......

Lifting the rear end is easier since I am sure that all the jacks even they are big or small can make it to the differential's case.......Just jack it at that point......and the rear end will be lifted.......

Don't forget to put supports underneath the car once it's being jacked.......You never know what's gonna happen.....

I bought ramps today but I'll try my the scissor jack tomorrow, totally forgot I had it. If that works out the way you say then I'll return the ramps. This is all new to me- should you always place wood between the car and the jack/ jack stands? Or only if your jacking/supporting from the beams?

dont jack up from tow hook insurance company salvaged my car when i got into an accident because it bent sideways off the welds. they did care that it wasnt caused by the minor fender bender i was in.

in front i jack my car up from the scissor jack points *if thats what they are really called* then i place the car on metal ramps from walmart. from behind i jack from diff and put jack stands from subframe.. i also use a race jack for lowered cars.

Thanks again for this. Jacking from that "notch" just behind the fender that is pictured on the jack raises my car enough to slide a larger jack under. To my dismay, it appears I have a minor oil leak and more spider webs. Using wood on the crossmember isn't necessary correct?

Really? I usually put the jack under the rad support, and then put the jackstands under the crossmember...then jack it up higher using the crossmember if I need to.

Yeah, whatever you do. USE JACKSTANDS. Don't kill yourself.

Not really but if I'm not going to use wood, then its because I'm using one of those big jacks that has a large surface area to contact the crossmember, not those small tiny ones that have a 1 inch diameter and take a million pumps just to get the car off the ground. I pretty much always use wood though for anything - jack, jackstands, ramps, etc. Even when I have to hammer something really hard and I don't want metal on metal, then i put a block of wood in between. It's used as a "cushion" in all these cases. Wood is your friend, go out and buy some
