found a brand new garrett 60-1 .63 with stage 3 wheel for 600 shipped..

how much later do these turbos spool then the gt35r .63?

the 35r is BB and the 60-1 is a journal 360 thrust bearing

the T67 is too laggy for my taste

i was wondering how long it was gonna take you to get rid of that t67 lol... i dont know anyone w/ these turbines on sr20's. i do know a few people w/ them on 1jz's.. but they have different stuff/other parts/tuning done to their motors so im not sure its a fair say... but yea... the guy w/ the 35r spools like 400rpm earlier than the guy w/ the 60-1 and this is w/ a 80/90 somthing hotside (dont remember the exact number)

he probably had the .82 P trim T4

Hey this is Daniel the guy with the red coupe that was at pas, when I finnaly got mine running my gt35-r .82 hit 1.5 bar at 4600. Thats with ported and polished head plus b/c 264's though. hope that helps

I don't know if its true but I heard that if you heat wrap your manifold and downpipe and insulate your hotside it also helps it spool quicker because it retians all the heat. I still don't know if thats true but i did it any way...mabye steve shadows could chime in and give us his 2 cents on that.

I would love to here the explanation of this whole "heat = quicker spool" theory :keke:

Me too.. but don't shoot the messenger I mostly wrapped every thing for the lower engine bay temps. not the mystery spool..LOL:rofl:

Well given that a turbine extracts work by changing the enthalpy(heat energy) of a gas flow through it, heat is one of the two factors at work. Change in temps, times massflow, times change in temp of the flow across the turbine(which is quite large).

This is one way rotaries are able to spool up bigger turbos than you'd really think they could run.

But heat wrapping stuff isn't going to make a huge difference in pre-turbine inlet temps at WOT, nor will it really change the delta T across the turbine.

Advancing ignition timing will help with your spool time more than that heat wrap would.....
It would be more practical to find ways to use the fuel you are given and to raise up the egt a bit. Heat wrap won't change the egt at all, timing effectively will.
It's not about retaining the heat that comes from the exhaust but more of how you can increase the heat from the exhaust.

Misinformation again... advancing ignition timing will drop EGTs due to more of the burn happening before exhaust blowdown.

call garrett they have a great customer service line with knowledgable techs.

Your right on this one I was confusing myself with plug temperature to egt. Plug temperature rises, not egt when advanced. Reversed in the other circumstances. Retarded timing increases egt and lowers plug temperature.

BTW - not really directly applicable, but to answer the OP's question, 3.2L S52 M3 engines can spool up a .63 a/r GT3582R about 300-500 RPM sooner than a .63 A/R 60-1 with a T3 Stg3 wheel. It's not a huge difference, but those guys rave that the 35R is much more responsive.
