i just got a 95 240 , so i dont know the history of the car

anyways

sometimes when i go to start it, it cranks then it almost dies down, and putters and such, then goes back to normal a few seconds later.

it doesnt do it if i give it a little gas to get it out of the low rpms

it used to do it every time but i adjusted the idle screw and it helped, but i dont want to turn it to much because i dont want to constantly be at 2k rpms

any suggestions?

seems like a vacuum leak would be continuous. it only does it for a few seconds, then its fine

+ it smokes when it is doing it(if that helps anything)

Maybe its misfiring, try checking your spark plugs.

also you can check the spark plug wires, and the distributor cap/rotor.

so get this, i had a water pump leak, so i was gonna fix it monday, then tonight on my way home from work, the water dripping on the belts made its way into my alternator. sinse it happened at night, i had to keep jumping it off, making it as far as i can(with my lights on), and then charge the battery, and start it all again

its been a GREAT night.

anyway. i'll buy new plugs, wires, and cap when i can afford it. im having to spend all my money on an alternator, water pump, thermostat, blah blah blah

i'll give updates on if it fixes it or not.
