ok so b4 i thought i knew it all and had it down (been repairing stuff for a few years) til todays discovery on my AIT kit. The front usually wears out/thin around the corners from rubbing the ground.
What i usually do is fiberglass resin, fiberglass cloth then fiberglass resin, and apply that to the inside of the bodykit where there is a crack. Putting down a layer or 2 of it over the inside of the area.
Now today i took my kit off due to a chunk breaking off, and come to see my old patch works have came right off.. Like the resin didnt stick too well to the body kit.
ANy ideas? Maybe I need to clean/prep the surface before I do it with water and soap? I usually just dust em off and think its good enough.
Maybe its just these flexible type body kits. They dont seem like they are easy to repair.

i'd actually go ahead and sand the repair area with some 60 grit just so the resin has something to grab onto. the rougher, the better, you really want to integrate the patch into the area well. and fiberglass mat usually sticks alittle better than woven cloth because its more porous. and clean the area with acetone before you start doing anything that involves glue, paint, resin, bonding...

The resin needs to bond to the fiberglass that's already there in order for the "patch" to stay on. So yeah, rough it up with sandpaper if you need to (to make it "flat"), but more importantly, wipe it with acetone/denatured alcohol first.
After that, you're correct in laying down some resin, then a mat, then some more resin.

cool . i never really paid attention to the prep.. always thought "oh it looks clean enough"... hahhaha
was thinking either the resin was crap or the kit itself, since its some flexible black texture

For my cf hood, i had to sand down to the actual cf past the resin, then lay the fiberglass over it..
I would put more than two layers as well. Cutting up a whole bunch of small pieces seems to work well. Put the small pieces over the cracks (make sure they all are kind of coated with resin) and then put a few big pieces over everything.
I put bondo on the front and sanded and whatever.
Thats what i did anyway, idk if its the best but it seems to have worked.

since theyre a flexible type body kit it maybe made with polyurethane resin instead of polyester or epoxy resin.
