hello all
like my title says how do you know if you got bad tension rods?
i installed my coilovers for about 5k miles now and whenever i brake somewhat hard and accelerate somewhat hard i hear these little "dut dut dut" sounds, the pulse accelerates when you brake harder it and goes away once you stop obviously. but, yeah i was just wondering if anyone else ever had this problem and what their solution was.
it ONLY happens during hard launches and pretty mild-hard braking. either then that nothing else is wrong.
i thought at first that maybe my coilover is loose and there is some play, but that isn't it.
then i thought maybe it's because the coilover is loose like one of the collars. but that wasn't it either.
so, i really don't know heh.
help thanks

Look at them. If the bushings are torn or dripping goo, replace them. If not, they're fine.

Are you just hearing a noise or is there some shaking/side to side movement happening as well?
If there's a lack of the shacking/side to side movement, I might think that something else is wrong.

Well if you got stock tension rods just check the bushing in them make sure is still there. Leftover pieces and goo are bad signs, also make sure they aint bent.

Thread Starter, what you are describing are signs of warn tension rod bushings.
If you inspect them, you'll probably want to replace them. Make your decision based on the driving you do.

no shaking or anything just that dut dut dut sound.
damn, well before i installed my coilovers i already noticed that the bushings were torn but i guess since i lowered my car it became apparent hehe.

Hmm... I've driven with tension rod bushings like that without any odd noises. Given the fact that you hear the sounds under acceleration as well as braking, I'd be inclined to say that it's something else. What kind of sound is a "dut dut dut" sound, exactly? (eg metal on metal, rubber on metal, etc.)
