View Full Version : Is there something like Crome for Nissans? esp 98 ECU's.

I want to start tuning my car. I am going to eventually go turbo or swap something anyway.
I am extremely technical as well as handy with the wrenches.
I can find tons of stuff for OBDI, even swapping in a 1995 ECU into my car and giving up some of the OBDII controls. JWT has to have a way they are tuning later model ECU's...
Any advice would be appreciated...I am debating just picking up a SAFC 2 from someone looking to buy a NEO or buying my friends E-Manage Ultimate now that he has majorly upgraded.

Main thing is to decide your overall goal and go from there if your looking for some good moderate tuning a rom tune isnt a bad idea but if your looking farther than the average joe and want to tune your own stuff go with a good stand alone...I find haltech to be my favorite. There are many variables.

I would like to see if it's possible to tune the later ECU myself so I don't have more electronics. I won't need a complete standalone as I am only going to be shooting for 300HP whether it's KA-T, SR or an LS1.

You could use something like Nistune, if you didn't want to go complete stand-alone.

JWT's method uses a 96 ecu in a 97-98 kouki. You swap two pins in the ecu plug and swap to an earlier o2 sensor and rewire it. The 96 ecu is tunable by almost anyone who uses some sort of eprom chip. I had one in my previous 98 kouki a while back and passed obdII emissions no problem. SAFC is garbage, save your money and get a real engine management/monitoring system. I'm not trying to be a dick but I've been where you are now. Don't let my low post count fool you, I know my shit and have been around a long time.

I think we emailed each other when I was out in Mesa and saw your car...
The thing with the SAFC2 is it will be cheap and get me another 10RWHP NA. I am on a tight budget right now (obviously why I am not turboed or swapped already), it will be late next year hopefully when I can set aside some more car money. It does have its pluses though...many are running only an SAFC2 at lower boost levels and having good reliability. It can do stuff the E-Manage needs a Profec added to it to do. It's not goint to replace a full blown Haltech/et al, but it's not really garbage either.
This is why I'd like to take it to the next level though. I would like a tune, but not have a ton of added electronics. I don't like the look.
I am looking for what methods the tuners are using to do these programs. I thought the 96-98 all used the same front O2's, only the 95 used the other type.
Do you know anyone that does this tuning I could look further with?
Thanks

Get the emu, a lot more user friendly (imo) and a lot more capabilities.

tunerpro and a calum realtime board... it'll be just like crome pro.

only the 95 is supported.
I have seen a lot of this stuff already...I am looking to keep my ODB2 configured if possible.

If I had $2k to blow it would not be just on an ECU. That's really overkill for any low boost application.
