View Full Version : how much power do you guys think I can make on my basic SR setup !?

here's the setup. My goal is a very conservative 300whp, think I can make this goal?

I will be set up for both 10 and 14psi. If I can make the power with 10psi ill just do that, but otherwise I'll run 1 bar-ish. What do you guys think./ I assume i'll need to run 1 bar

cheers!

~280 to 300 to the wheels, depending on the dyno, the tune, etc.

i'd be happy with 280. It's going in a 72 datsun 510 shag wagon :)

more than 300 with a good tune. i made almost 395 on a mustang dyno boosting 21-22 pounds on that turbo. similar mods . had HKS 272 cams ecu was a PFC.

I don't intend on ever boosting over 1 bar, which is what i'm going to stick with. It's going to be crazy power for the car as it is.

u gonna have to boost maybe a bit more than 1 bar . 300whp on that 20g its around 1.1-2 bar depending on tune
im boosting 1.5 on my gt30

07-23-2008, 10:36 AM
That turbo is capable of 1.5 to almost 2 BAR of boost, and that's really it's sweet spot.

At that boost level you'd be looking at like 450hp or so to the wheels.

Do a search and look for a post by the Tiger Racing guys. They posted a few dynos and their specs on their car.

so sad i got rid off it :( want it to keep it as a spare ,but 20g is T2 and my new gt30 is T3 flange , thats why i sold it. that 20g makes 300whp like nothing .

i'll be happy with 280 if i can get it, just no less, keeping it at 1 bar though :)

Good luck with the build!

Uh... "minimum boost" is dictated by the spring in the wastegate... and the surge characteristics of that turbo, and I don't think anything less than 1BAR would cause the compressor on that turbo to surge...?

Get an aftermarket manifold. Its like night and day if you get a good one. Turbo spools quicker, more efficient on the top end, ect. And Its very overlooked.

Not always overlooked, there are other reasons.

I like knowing my mani isn't going to crack, or my turbo studs back out.

Unless you get a good mani, you always run that risk.

it's going to have a custom tubular manifold

Actuator - Adjustable yes, but it isn't made to be adjustable to less than 14psi. You see, this turbo is intended for 350-450whp applications. Not low boost 250whp applications. This may not be the best turbo to run if you are limited to very low boost pressure like 10psi. If you must run less than 14psi boost pressure, this turbo is not for you - you need a smaller turbo.

They say something about it not liking under a bar of boost. Did you modify the wastegate actuator?

I didn't modify anything.

I don't own one of those turbos.

i am going to be running 14psi with N60 MAF and external wastegate with 14psi spring, with e-mance tuned ECU for the setup, this is my final decision going to see how it works out

Either way, those injectors are waaaay too small for that turbo. You'd max those out before you can even enjoy this turbo. 300whp, 550s are maxed out and your turbo is barely getting into its efficiency...

maxima guys over on maxima.org are getting 320whp with 370cc injectors....

the FAQ here for injector size vs whp states that 555 cc = 373 WHP at stock fuel pressure. I think I should be fine at 300whp...

when it comes to efficiency, i am just getting into its efficiency range. I was looking for a good deal on a turbo to replace old T25 and best deal was on the 20G

Umm...Maxima? You have a 4 cylinder with 4 injectors, not a V6 with 6 injectors. Trust me, Ive seen way too many 550s hit 99% duty cycle and no, 555cc is not capable of holding 373whp. 740s yes, but definitely not 555s. Ive had a Greddy T518Z (equivalent to an 18G) with 550s, and that shit was maxed the fuck out at 1.2 bar on a smaller turbo. Always better to give yourself room, just in case. No point of pushing injectors pass 90% duty cycle.

But hey, who am i to tell you other wise right? Its your engine, your car, your money when and if it does blow. Not like I get any satisfaction out of it.

Not the turbo for what your doin', unless you plan on sticking to the 14 psi.

I am sure your setup will give you 300hp no problemo!
20g as in TD06? cuz that turbo will put you in the 4-500 hp range, unless you keep of the boost!
especially if you get a good tune! Z32 MAF and the bigger turbo will easily do the job!

1.4 bar should push him close to 400whp, seen it done out here. 25Gs on an SR will push over 450whp. 2 guys out here in oki had them. Ones at 470 and the others at 495whp.

Let's hope the folks and the tuner that you talked to know what they're talking about then... because I've come across more "import tuna"s and folks that can't distinguish between their left hands from their right, and they talk like they know their shit.

im not trying to tell anyone they dont know what they are talking about, bcause ive only been in the game for a couple years. but on my old motor i had 50# injectors and i was running 376 whp , drove it daily and track.(old motor) greddy oil relocate kit broke in the middle of of a sweeper, spit all the oil out the block and spun the third bearing

Im still gonna stick to my guns...my power FC was showing 99% duty cycle on 550s with a Greddy T518Z. T518Z are the same thing as a TD05-18G which is smaller than what you have. That was more than enough to convince me to go get bigger injectors. Kurumaya has 550s, same deal and he had a smaller turbo. Strapped it on the dyno to do a baseline. Made 300whp and his injectors were at 99%. All Im saying is its better to sit on the safe side, bigger injectors will cover your ass in case something happens. Anything more than 90% duty cycle puts alot of strain/wear & tear on injectors, having deutchworks injectors doesnt help your damn cause. They are prone to going static...

I hope if youre gonna put 100% of your faith on this shop that theyll back you up when and if the engine starts knocking after a couple of months. I think I know which shop your talking about to. They used to cater mostly to the Z32 guys? Cant remember the name of the shop but my buddy in Augusta went to them with his TT and got their rom tune.

I will agree with this, if you have a choice on 550s or 740's get 740's
I had the coice of having 550's or 850's I chose 850's even though some say its overkill, but with good tunning at least I know they wont max out....Ever!

i think 550cc for 300WHP r ok.

According to my calculations 550s are too small. You need something like 650cc injectors. Do the math yourself if you dont believe me.

Horspower X .65(brake specific fuel consumption for turbo apps.)

Divided by

4(# of injectors) X .8(duty cycle)

gets you your injector flow (lbs/hr)

So you take your (lbs/hr) and times it by 10.5 and you get you injector flow for (cc/min)

In the end you get 639.84cc/min...

The man above is correct if you want to be safe. 550's at 100% duty cycle come out around 320hp but I don't like running it that close.
