I've used the search function, but I've come up short. Could a CA18DET bolt right into the s14 chassis? I was planning on getting a swap in the summer, and I was thinking about the CA.

yes it will fit. bolts into s13 ok. s13 and s14 engines bolt into eachother's chassis without problem. hence, a CA would bolt into a s14.

its wiring issues where the fun begins.

Does anyone on the board have a CA in a s14?

Probably no one has a CA18DET in an S14 body.
Main reason being parts availability for the CA, plus the SR has more power stock.

I've owned both a CA18DET S13 and now an SR20DET 180SX.
I loved the CA and still like the engineering behind the motor....but the SR is so much more fun.

Did you ever have any problems with the CA?

The SR is a much more advanced motor, in every aspect: engineering, power output, design. You'll probably end up spending the same amount of money to get a CA. SRs are also more supported as far as aftermarket parts go. I would go with the SR over the CA. Then again, it is your car... I'm sure you're still making up your mind on which route to go. You should search www.altavista.com, there's quite a few pages that go into detail about the CA design, fuel injection... etc. Then compare all that to the SR and make your decision. Might wanna try our Search (http://www.zilvia.net/f/search.php?) function, we've had a ton and then some posts about the CA. Talk to CA18Guy, he currently owns a 180SX and is in England.

Good luck with everything.

Other than the stock turbo crapping on me, and doing the timing belt change, never had a problem with the CA18DET.

S13Girl, hate to tell you this but the CA18DE(T) is a better engineered engine. It's over engineering and cost of production killed it from the Nissan lineup.

the CA18 engine is more mechanically sound than the SR.
The SR was produced to save money, and just happened to put out more power in developement.

Availability and Popularity are why the SR is more sought after in the US.

If you are serious about the CA, I might be able to give you a friends e-mail. He has connections in the states that may have one sitting around or can get you one.

He recently told me importers weren't shipping them into the US anymore cause all they do is sit and rot......

Well the swap is still quite some time off. I still need to do an extensive amount of research, and scrounge up some more money.

Ouch, sorry if I was wrong. I ended up reading a personal web-page that someone in Australia made, and this person praised the SR. I mean, it wasn't a professional review by Nissan or anything of such sort, but he had some valid points. If I find the link I will post it again.

Thanks!
