View Full Version : Brake Pads for Z Calipers
I did a search and didn't find to much. But I wanted to see what my options were as far as Brake pads for my Z brakes. I've used Metal masters all my life because they are cheap. I don't want to go crazy on my brake pads, ill end up getting something that is cost effective. None the less, id still like to know what my options are from cheap to expensive. Please let me know what's out there, what's good, and what's not. Thanks!

I tried the Axxis Ultimate pads for the front with my Z calipers and they are pretty decent, fairly strong and durable pads.. a bit more durable than the Metal Masters and they require no warmup. They work really well when warm too. Biggest downside is the brake dust. Interesting though, after some fairly heavy driving these pads actually chewed into my rotors more than the Metal Masters usually would. I guess they are just more aggressive pads..
I think in the long run I am going to stick with Metal Masters for now, I think they are good pads. I am also using them in the rear with my Z calipers.

Yeah the Ultimate pads are relatively new and not too many people know about them. I know a lot of track Miata owners are having fun with them, they perform pretty well and their price is not excessive. Less than the 80 for the KVR's..

I use porterfield and other than a lot of dust, they are great. I hear carbotech is a good pad as well.

I have the KVR's (from Don) with my Z brakes. They are great. Grab nice, even when cold or wet, and they hold nice too. No fade. Only drawback is that like any carbon pad, they make noise when hot. High-pitched squeal. Although I think I need to resurface my rotors and rebed the pads....

Porterfield R4S all the way man...Tons better than the Metal Masters, albeit a bit more expensive. They'll run around 90ish for the front pair. I always order mine through www.stranoparts.com I don't really think they dust all that bad.
