c'mon now.....POS? you know good and well if that car was like 15k you would take it even though its an automatic. Its still faster than our N/A 5-speed S14's and S13's.

Well whatever, i know i'd buy it, if it were cheap enough.

POS car....my ass:rolleyes:

u cant read into sarcasm too well can you?

i still wouldnt take it. unless i was in japan. but if i was in japan, i'd get a turbo Laurel (or maybe a Cefiro) for about $500-1000 (yes they can be found that cheap easily) and juice it up to 350RWHP on the RB and eat your automatic s15 for lunch. mmm yumma! haha..

or maybe get a CA 180sx for $500 or so and have fun with that. or get a 180sx w/ early SR20det for under a 1,000 and then rip into your auto s15..hmmmm

12-23-2002, 04:49 PM
of course you wouldnt buy that in Japan....with all those other cars around for cheaper who would.

Im saying like if the car was here and it was for sale for like 15k with legalizing and all that crap included.

I just find it hard to believe that an S15 silvia, whether it be automatic or stick, can be called a POS car.

it didnt sell all that great. it only made 250PS to the fly. i'd take an STi over that any day for power. a 180sx for drift.

the sr20det is outdated, hence it is a dead engine. it was build on old technology. it is a good engine, dont get me wrong but its time to move on. its over.

s15 is nice and all but i would never want one. its just that JDM bling bling that's blinding you.

have you ever seen an s15 in person? not pictuers but infront of you in real life. i hope so because it would be sad if you based everything on photos. seeing them (any car) in person is a different expirience. of course that's not saying you cant say a car is good or bad by photos and such but in person you can really "understand" a car.

maybe its just me......

i dont know what it is. its just something about it that sets it apart. The first one i saw in person was the one by Signal (and this was way before it was in the magazines). To me S15's are just really classy. Its not just raw sports car, theres alot of class too.

when i see them its just another car. nothing to get excited about. there are far better cars in both the handling and power market. peronally i find some of the toyotas far more exciting. s15 wasnt a big seller, it lasted what, 2 years?

i just dont see the hype w/ the s15. yes i saw it before it was even well known. i saw one in Hong Kong 2 years ago. grey market there. i was interested in the R34 GTR then anyways..for good reason! haha..that and the diablos are nice to view.

and this one is an AUTO. POS.

as Bjones says, its like going to a whorehouse and masturbating.

forget it.

S14's rule!!!. Aaron I actually like that 200sx better than the Silvia. none of that extra tacky crap to go along. notice the steering wheel isnt silver like the silvia. S14's and s13's are plain and simple. S15 seems to concentrate on the detailed looks a bit to much, hence the silver trims and the plastic cladded look..

s15 is a nice car, but I would rather have an r32 for the money..:( I know i can find em for that cheap in australia or japan :D

A friend got a copy of one of the brochures when the car first was introduced to the public sometime in '98. At that time I didn't own a 240SX, didn't give a damn about "JDM", and really wasn't even interested in Japanese cars as a whole. I still thought it was one of the best looking cars I'd ever seen. A bit Ferrari derivative (check one out side by side with a Ferrari 456GT), but that's never a bad thing.

There are better performance deals (especially over an auto S15). So what? There are better performance deals than anything you listed, too. I like the S13/14/15 series, the S15 is the final variation of it, the culmination of 10 years of prior development. It wasn't by any means the king of performance cars, it was just a cheap (¥2.3M) stylish 2+2 RWD coupe with decent power and at least some thought put in to making it a balanced, communicative handler. Worthy of hype? Sure, when nothing at all like that exists here.

I can't fathom calling the vintage-1990 SR old rubbish to be cast aside when I grew up in an automotive culture that reveres engine architectures that date to the '50s. Why? 'cause they still work. The manufacturers constantly have to throw out older designs these days because of emissions and efficiency constraints. As enthusiasts we're not held to these, so why bother? Nissan doesn't build cars for me anymore. The last US-spec Nissan I gave a flying crap about was sold in the spring of 1998. The V35/Z33 platform and the VQ and QR engines are wonderful pieces of whizbang technology but they're not for me.

More or less I agree with AKADriver. The S15 is a clean looking car (and indeed does have a bit of Ferrari curving to it, kinda like the new Tiburon). But that makes no difference, because automotive styling has always been borrowed between manufacturers. Lets not even talk about cars today, because I cant tell ANY of them apart. The Z, Audi TT, Porsche Boxter, Audi A4, A6, Jetta, whatever.. they are all bubble-butts and look the same. Cars today are losing their sense of individuality.

I too have not paid much attention to NISSAN, it started around the time the S14 was introduced. I like the S14, but as soon as I sat in one at the dealership and took it for a drive.. I didnt like it (when comparing it to my S13). Sure, I like the S14 and I've seen plenty of nicely modified ones.. but in terms of the plastics and materials used, I find them getting thinner and thinner every year. Which brings me to the Z, sure its a nice car.. like many of today's cars. The problem is the materials they use and the amount of technology they incorporate into building these cars. There is so much wiring, so many sensors, and just SO many things to break.. that it drives me away from wanting to own one of these nightmares.

I have customers who have original 240Z's, Z31s, Z32s, and now Z33's.. and we've had discussions as to how overall build quality has changed and the materials they use are overall cheaper. I will be surprised to see a Z33 in CLEAN condition 20-30 years from now. Its interesting how I've seen more clean 240Z's vs Z32 300Z! The 240Z's are just more basic, better built, and easier to maintain.. as long as you can get parts for them.

ANYWAY, I like that S15.. regardless if it was built more recently and goes against my preferences, I still think the car is nice (like the Z33). Even though its auto, I still like that too. My car is auto, and too many short-sighted people pass judgement on cars without learning about them. I drive my SOHC auto and keepup with plenty of cars that on paper should kill me. Whatever, anyone with some skill wont let a transmission scare them.. a simple swap and you're done.. they do it all the time in Australia, thats for sure.

From just the appearance alone of the S15, it's hard to believe nissan didn't bring it to the US. I would have certainly bought one. But I guess it's like all other things, it was a money issue. But damn, they just look soooooooo gooood.

MIKE!!!!! you're back!!!! :)...

anyways what I'm saying is that for s15's the australia 200sx's seem to be more appealing to me than the silvia (and its really the cosmetics that make the difference)It looks very clean. In fact the 200sx's have always been more appealing than the silvias. (one of my favorite models is the 200sx Z edition, limited production in europe AND LHD).

I still like my s14 over s13 or s15. s15 is a bit too concentrated on details, while s13 is a bit small for me.
But like I said, for the money, I would get an r32 skyline.
or a bmw M3.. heheheh (because the s15 is more overrated than even this car).

Kid Zelda: The wheels look much better on Mrmephistopheles's s13. muwahahahahaha. go steal richard's wheels fool!

Dousan: haha thanks so much for helping me out. Yea they look very nice, now my front just needs to be lowered a bit more.

hmm
$25k for a stock automagic S15? I'd rather go nuts with my S13 or pick up a stock Skyline GT-R from Motowrecks. I think they're a pretty car, but that's about as far as it goes for me. For me, Nissan hit a peak with it's S-chassis cars with the 180sx. Damn thing sold for 10 years straight with only minor changes. That's what I call getting it right.

Hmmm...anyone look at the VIN he has listed for the car? It starts with a 1...which denotes USDM. W is Germany, J is Japan, etc...weird.

AKADriver
12-26-2002, 08:34 AM
The VIN corresponds to a '93 Mazda MX6. :p They were built in the US in the same plant as the Ford Probe.
