Hello guys I am in the middle of my turbo install and while taking the exhaust manifold off I managed to snap the stud closest to the radiator off. Well my dad and I drilled the stud and got it to turn out some but it seems to be stuck and is still recesed in the head. So my dad decided to drill the hole in the stud bigger so big that the only amount of the stud left is a thin layer on the threads. He did this thinking that it would make it easier to remove the stud. Well we still cant get it out. My question is, can we go ahead and rethread the hole for the stud without having to worry about metal shaving getting down into my engine? Has anyone else had to rethread the hole for their stud? Im feeling kinda down right now because of this so any and all advice would be greatly appreciated :-/

If the car is not turbocharged you'll be fine it'll just blow out your exhaust, it's already past all the stuff it could damage. If you are really that worried you could get a shop vac with a thin extension and vacuum all the shavings up.

So the stud does not go through to the motor correct? I have heard of people having to remove the head to rethread an exhaust manifold stud and that kinda had me worried. I will attempt to rethread the hole this weekend. Thanks for the reply man.

Use a left handed drill bit to remove your stud next time. Lots of pressure. low rpm. unless you can get it out a helicoil or keensert is your next step
