as i was rewiring my front speakers yesterday, i was looking at my gas pedal and brake pedal. then i noticed a little button on part of the gas pedal, and it looks like it activates when the gas pedal is floored.

i was wondering what it does...and do all cars have em,i have a s13 auto, i was curious to see if manuals have em too. i think it is a trigger to get the transmission to shift when the pedal is floored...any ideas?

virtually all automatics have a button like that. it is basically a "downshift-as-low-as-possible-now" button. on many cars they are adjustable by turning a nut that locks them in place.

electronic automatics like the 240SX's do, mechanical/hydraulically controlled automatics like old domestic cars use a mechanical linkage from the throttle to the trans called a kickdown to do this.

But, yeah, that's what the switch is for.
