OK- hi i'm new to this forum...tried looking for a similar post but couldn't find anything.

I was thinking about installing an s15 helical diff on my s13, and i was curious as to what people's opinions were on the helical diff. The s13 i had in japan had a cusco lsd, but that car is gone and now i'm in the U.S. Are helical diffs any good for drifting? Does helical=torsen?

Anything any of you could tell me would be appreciated.

that style diff is a very nice setup. The one drawback is if you pick up or unweight the inside tire, then it turns into a open diff. It can only create a ratio of the torque between the two wheels/ If one of the wheels can't hold any torque, then it can't do that, so it will just spin. Plan on running softer A/R bars with this type of diff. It is very good though, I don't plan on lifting the inside tire much.

It might be a little hard to install an s15 diff in your s13. From what I know you'd need both s15 output shafts and those I think are shorter than the s13's. Plus I'm not sure your stock drive shaft will bolt up.

This is all speculation however. From the little I've seen and the lot that I've heard:D

I just want a nismo 2way dammit!

my friend just put in his Nismo 2 way. its LOUD. CLUNK CLUNK. sounds like the car is falling apart!! LOUD LOUD!! the negatives of going 2way clutch LSD. but when the car is pushed sideways its all goooooood.

my mechanical LSD (2way) is fun too. but i want a clutch one now! :D

i was thinking of getting the torsen s15 diff on my usdm s14. I want the diff to give me better traction on tight turns for possible autocross, and better traction in the snow. Does this mean that the S15 diff will be useless in the snow if one wheels on ice? torque can't be held on ice..

Torsens a good choice. Smooth engage/disengage and low maintaince. The only pitfall is it doesnt hold as much power as a clutch type can.

S15 diff will install in S13 or S14 pumpkin with the S15 output shafts, and will then bolt right up to the car of course. You could probably make the S15 pumpkin work but it would take a lot of jumping through hoops.

I've read that they're not so good in snow/ice, but then what RWD car is?

after someone answers my question!!

more power then you'll have
it will easily support 400 to 500
