Removing the HICAS System

I haven't really posted cause I have been using the Search feature all the time, but this time I may need some help with this one.

I just bought a 1993 240sx SE Hatchback with Super-HICAS. I want to remove the whole system completely. I know Kazama makes a HICAS Stopper, but I want to remove the system completey so I can eliminate the chances of the HICAS stopper failing. I have been searching on Zilvia for information regarding the removal, but it seems like no one has really completely removed the system.

Right now I already have a rear sub-frame from a non-HICAS S13. I know that the HICAS powering steering pump and the HICAS steering rack are different from a S13 w/o HICAS. Not sure if the power steering hoses are different.

My question is has anyone completely removed the HICAS system from their S13 without using the HICAS stopper and if so how did you remove it??

If you have the subframe you're golden. Bolt it in, remove the lines from under the car to the pump, then put a standard pump on it. Keep the rack, it's got a quicker ratio. Remove the control unit, it's behind one of the rear quarter trims, don't remember which side though.

Thanks for the info. I think the control unit is on the right side of the car. I was thinking I needed to get a non-HICAS power steering pump, but wasn't sure about the steering rack.

drivers side is the control unit for the hicas
pass side is for the abs unit.
if you have the subframe, your good, make sure you got some non hicas rear knuckles,
while your at it, add solid bushings, RUCA's etc, etc,
do it once, so you'll never do it again

Oh I'm planning on doing it all at once. ATM I am in the middle of creating a list for my suspension upgrade. It's roughly going to be at least 4 G's. I'll post it once I finish if anyone is interested.

I believe you can keep your hicas pump. You can plug remove the vanes from the back of the pump and plug it. I could be wrong, but I believe that the hicas pump is larger. The thread I've seen is for using a hicas pump with an sr, but it's the same idea for removing hicas.

Here is a walkthrough with pics for those who are visual lerners.
If you have a Hicas pump on your SR motor then when you go to put the DOHC ps/ lines and pump in, the DOHC bracket for the pump wont line up. The HICAS and non HICAS brackets are diffrent. So what you will need to do is to modify the HICAS pump to work as a non HICAS pump.
Step one is to take off the 5 bolts on the back of the pump (opposite side of pully) and pull off the rear section as shown in this picture:

After doing this you will see 10 small slots that contain small square pieces of metal.:

What you need to do is remove all of these small square pieces.

Then you need to put the rear section back in just like you took it out:

There is one last thing that you need to do. you need to get a bolt or something and plug the back hole that is facing you in the above picture and JB weld it in or somthing so it won't leak. Make sure It is in there good otherwise it will leak.
Thats it! thats all you need to do to use your HICAS pump with your SR motor!

hey guys im doing the same thing. i have the rear subframe everything for the swap my only question is does the bushing in the axle housing have to be replaced ? i noticed the inside diameter is wider than the new bolt for new toe rod. can u guys please help verify
