View Full Version : Fitment issues with Nismo wheel studs

I'm trying to put in new Nismo studs due to broken wheel studs. My problem arises when I realize that there is too much slack when the Nismo stud is in the hole. Upon comparison between the studs that originally came off my car and the Nismo one, the original stud is slightly thicker at the base where it should seal tight with the hub. Both studs are aftermarket extended studs. After comparing my Nismo stud with stock 240sx studs at both Advance Auto Parts and Autozone, the Nismo studs are the same style as the stock 240 studs. My conclusion is that the hubs on my 98 S14 are from another car, possibly at Q45 or J30. The Nismo parts number for the 300zx rear studs are the same as the 240, so that can't be it. I need some inputs as to figuring out which studs I need as quickly and cheaply possible.

Here is a picture of the studs. The stud on the left is the one that came of my hub and the right is the Nismo wheel stud. At the end of the original wheel stud, it reads "N by D...63...109".

Here is my hub if anyone could tell if its from a different car or not.

The studs you took out were probably not OE and were forced in, slightly boring out the hole in the hub. Now the OE stud won't fit tight. Does that sound plausible? You can pull the hubs and tackweld the studs in place or find studs with the right knurl.

It's a very possible theory. I believe the studs are H&R studs based on these post:
dude really wierd, My H&R studs have 45 splines!!! i'm kinda freakin out now, havent installed em yet but shit, how can they have that many? and usually that means the teeth are smaller so they may not hold as well as OEM teeth.... didnt measure knurl dont have a caliper here but they look the same.

hope this helps....... only it seems like it screwed me up more than helping anybody!
Dont hate on him. my friend bought h&r spacers with extended wheel studs and the knurles on the studs were the wrong size there were even for a s13 and thats what they were installed on. sorry about your luck. I think h&r needs to research there studs a little more.

Someone else on another forum suggested I may have Z32 hubs which have a 14.3 x 36T knurl but I ordered the 13 ones, so they would be too skinny.

S14 front studs are different from the rears. S14 rears are the same as S13 front/back studs.

You PM'ed me but i'll answer on here,

14.3mm Knurl = S14 front (maybe Z32, J30 front as well, but i'm not 100%)

13mm knurl = S13 Front and Rear, S14 rear, Z32 rear, J30 rear

You did not specify in your post but i'm going to assume your talking rear only, which case ProjectRDM is probably right and you're slut has had more studs in her than she knows what to do with.

Now you are dealing with a Hot-dog in a Hallway theory and need to either tack weld, or buy Moroso or ARP studs (which are better anyway) and get different lug nuts.

What i would do is get a very accurate digital caliper, clean the holes and measure the bore then reference that with ARP's which have a very wide variety and you can get something thats slightly larger and will hold tight for a while. Otherwise use H&R, CS, or whomever and tack weld.
