i just bought a lip for very cheap. it has 2 big cracks in each corner that tried to be fixed with some kind of glue,
so here is my objective
fix the cracks and preventing it from cracking again.

here is how i plan to do this
1) sand down the lip from the inside and put several layers of fiberglass with a bendable piece of thick aluminum inbetween the layers of fiberglass

2)sand down the entire outside of the lip and apply a even layer of fiberglass cloth and sand it down evenly
3)im thinking of appling bondo over the fiberglass to make the surface very smooth for paint
4) this is where i started to think extra durable lip. i want to roll on sevral coats of rubber truck bedliner material for all those rocks(cats) on the road.:fawk2:

well yeah thats my plan so far for this weekend. if you have any suggestion let me know

do et! and take pics sounds like a good adea......i think u can manage with out the metal flat bar though....all that fiberglass and truck liner on the bottom should stiffen it up a bunch

I fixed my bumper by clamping it and using epoxy and some metal strips on the back. Then bondo-ed it and it looked really good the epoxy i used way sand-able so u just smeared it every where after u clamp it then sand. Best of luck...u can always zip-tie stitch it lol

that bondo is going to crack all up as soon as an part of the lip nicks the ground... you shouldnt put bondo on anything that flex's... i never bondo fenders or bumpers etc

also i had to stitch that crack on pass with zips

there is an epoxy made for urethane---you just have to step the edges and they say the urethane will rip before it breaks...cant remember what its called...ill look for it

airless plastic welding. you can get a kit from eastwood. its like soldering but with plastic. i did 4 cracks in mine. you would never be able to tell

what i did to fix mine was to use counter sunk screws and bolt a piece of steel to the back of the lip. space out the screws evenly and paint it matte black or truck liner. it gives it a racey/track look. it has never given me trouble. i also had a few small cracks that i backed up with fiberglass.

wouldnt the spray-on bedliner be lil more thinner than the roll on ?
how is it holding up so far?

I just used some epoxy, filled in the crack and globbed it on the back. It's worked for a few months so far.

I siliconed the bad cracks in mine. its been holding up fine. for the rest of my cracks I just ziptied lol. its pretty frankenstein. but the real test will come when I drop my car 2 more inches :D
