I searched and couldn't find a relative answer ot my question. Just wondering if anyone knows... Is it MORe illegal to have an S13 with an RB25 or RB26 swap than it is to have a SR20 swap??? I mean, if a cop pulled you over, and found both, would the consequences be the same, or would there be more shit associated with the Rb series for some reason? They're both japanese engines, so i assume it would be the same.... anyways, bored and just wondering... thanks for any help

Nope. Illegal is illegal. Theres no grey its just black and white. Just depends if the cop knows wht hes looking at or if he decides to be leniant. End of thread.

if the cop knows better than both will get you impounded down here in cali, but it depends on where you live. it would deffinatly be easier to refferie* an SR20 as long as it passes smog. it would be a little harder to pass smog with the rb though. i know cause i have an rb20 and that hard enough to pass. a 25 will be even tougher still. so in short, both are just as illegal but the rb is deffinatly more distintive and not OEM. just get it reffed.

yeah, thats pretty much what i thought... so if you get caught wiht one, may as well get caught with the other. anyone in AZ know what the laws are, and what is done if you're caught with a swap? or where to find that info?

yeah... illegal is illegal no matter what. And it depends on how ignorant the cop is...

I once got my hood popped by a cop (I have a stock sr btw)... and I was let go because I'm guessing its because it looks factory. I don't know if the same thing would of happened if I had an inline 6 under the hood.

Hit your state's government website.

It's all the same. Just depends on the cop really. I've been pulled over 3 times with my SR. Got state reffed coming back from seeing my ladie at school. Didn't get reffed cause the engine but because of the intake pipe:tweak:. So if the cop see's the SR and is like eh what ever looks small and stock-ish. But the RB idk it's huge compared to SR. I would say odds are you will have more hassle with the RB rather than the SR

i've gotten off 3 times with my rb, keep it dusty and oily, makes it look stock. haha

wow im sorry but what a dumb question. A swaped motor is a swaped motor I dont think it can be "more illegal" like ohhhh 2 years behind bars for being cought with a rb26!!!!

but of course the SR looks more stock then an RB, but that does not make it more legal.

^ why didnt you edit post instead of double posting?

OP like eveyone said its all about your state, for instance in GA both would be illlegal, but the chances of a cop actually pulling somone over for either is almost non-existant, cuz they dont check for that kind of stuff here. Your state could be similar. Check the local section of the forum and ask around to see if your state is one of those ones you have to worry about. Also if this helps any if a person doesnt know what they are looking for a person could get a KA mixed up with an SR (i embarrsingly did for a while) and if they dont know what comes in the car then how would they know if it was a swap? For the knowlege ones, like the above poster said, all about the cop

ok just stop posting ignorance!

Fact: If you get pulled over and they pop your hood you will most likely write you a ref ticket if you have a SR, unless they are ignorant of the engine. Some are some aren't its a crap shoot. IF you're street racing or going over 100 mph. Then there is a chance they will impound it. Otherwise they will just write a ticket.

Fact: You cannot get a SR Ref'd. Period! It never came in a car in the states and they do not have the same emissions equipment. Passing the sniffer does not count if you can't comply with the visual.
Fact: Any 6 cylinder looks like a 6 cylinder regardless of it being a 20,25 or 26. Its not harder to fool, its the same you won't.

Fact: Like I said earlier RWD SR's were never put in cars imported to the U.S. They may be OEM but they are not USDM. Oh and FWD SR's do not count as even if you could put it in your car it would still be illegal having never come in a RWD configuration in the U.S.

Please stop posting ignorant bullshit if you really don't know. Do you're research before you speak up about this stuff as you're seriously misleading people with your post.

It's like asking.....

Which one is more illegal?

15 or 16 year old girls.

Both are illegal and both gets you 20 years.

well illegal is illegal BUT... a cop is more likely to notice an SR than an RB. in san diego they train them to look for the redtop on SR's but if he pulled you over just to check out your car chances are he could send you to a ref with your KA just for the hell of it

This is true as well. All it takes is a non carb stickered intake if the cop wants to be a dick. Or a Aftermarket header. Or..... the list goes on. This thread needs to end. We have covered the bases.
