I personally am not crazy about the styling. I see a lot of the Elise in there, but where the Elise looks very fresh and new (even this many years later), this car looks to derived. I especially don't like how long the front overhang it.

Hardtop Elise

However, I still find it attractive.

Power plant? HP/TQ? Price?

Nope, all new platform all together. They've been developing this car for a long time.

More info from Autoblog:

ust to put the Eagle's dimensions into perspective, its wheelbase is approximately 275mm (about 13 inches) longer than the Elise/Exige, or slightly shorter (80mm) than the Porsche 911. The extra space makes for a more livable cabin for at least two of its occupants and allows Lotus to use the international automotive metric for measuring capacity – it can fit one golf bag in the boot.

As previously reported, a 3.5-liter Toyota-sourced V6 will send 276 hp and 250 lb.-ft. of torque through a Toyota-derived six-speed transmission that's been re-engineered by Lotus with a new clutch and a revised gear set. The Eagle's weight is estimated at just over 3,000 pounds.

According to Autocar, Lotus plans an eight-year life cycle for the Eagle, and a convertible version will be released two to three years after sales begin in May of next year.

I like the profile and front, but the rear looks too Elise'ish... Hope they make it more affordable because the Espirit was retardedly overpriced.

edit: found this pic when I googled it...

I miss this one. My neighbor has a black one... So gangster.

My interest is PIQUED.

Anxious to see it in various colors, and to see some proofs of its performance.

By no means do I expect this to be a ZR-1/GTR/LFA competitor, but I'd like to know what it can do.

Any rumor on an Eagle Sport?

Make it resemble this Exige and I'm all over it.

Ehh I dunno...looks kinda weird in some areas imo.

I thought they would have drawn inspiration from the Espirit itself...make it low and sleek.

The front part of the roofline kinda reminds me of the GTR...probably because the A-pillar is blacked out.

I'd rather have an Exige.

I hope you drive as well as your SN  thats a bold one.

Ah back to topic. While the car looks attractive I do see derivative here. The front looks like a cross between a Ferrari and the Elise, the roof line is more Exige the only thing GTR looking is that quarter window. LOL nice though. It would depend on pricing. I don't know if was out of Japan I would say ok . Dare I say I expect British and European car makers to come up with more original looking lines? LOL

lotus is now super gangster and is reguarded as the place to deal with aluminum extrusions and how to bond them together. Most don't know the elise has 3 pieces for the chassis and they're glued together. They also extrude front and rear spindles. Alot of out of the box thinking.

to keep up with their efforts in new ways of manufacturing I'd recomend subscribing to lotus engineering's monthly e-mag proActive

280ps? 3000 lbs? I don't see what's special here...this is like NSX all over again, but almost 20 years later. I think I could have suggested some better options in the 3.5L V6 category :)

Werd. VQ35HR. And put the VQ37DE in the high performance model.

Well here are the official specs and pics. And it's called the Evora. The numbers aren't that impressive to me. Think about how many people on here have 276 hp 240's that weigh less then that. I dunno. I was expecting something more in the 350hp+ range. Unless this is to compete more with the likes of the Z, G, 3 Series coupe, etc.

To illustrate, the automaker claims it will fit two American males in the front seats (did they just call us fat?). It's a mid-engine, 2+2 coupe (a convertible is planned) with 3.5L V6 sourced from Toyota but elevated by Lotus above its humble origins to produce 276 horsepower. The car weighs just 2,976 lbs., which might be a lot for a Lotus but is well below the average weight of most cars.

Looks more dull. Too dull.

It fits into the Line-up well, because it looks so similar to the Elise. I think they could've gone more aggressive with it. Overall, I still like it. Now they just need a "Sport" model with optional supercharger.

the esprit was one of the sexiest cars ever to exist, IMO. this looks like poop. i want the wedged/doorstop look. moar sharp edges, and flat surfaces please.

wait.

3.5L toyota V6 "massaged" to 276hp? uh, which version of the GR engine did they pick? the sienna 2GR already makes 268hp and the 2GR from the IS350 is rated at over 300hp.

the

if i wanted a car to beat on the track i'd get a regular exige

if i wanted a street car i'd get an m3 or 335i

a 3000lb lotus is pointless

Way to kill Colin Chapman's dream of building lightweight corner carvers.

The old Esprit was way better, the wedge shape was just great. Why the hell does the rear look exactly like the Elise/Exige, that's just stupid.

exactly what i was gona mention....they made it bigger and heavier. looks like to me there trying to make it more streetable. they talking how it can fit to large males bla bla bla.....since when did we want a lotus that could. thats what made it cool its hardcore track reputation.
